Odigo says workers were warned of attack

By Yuval Dror

Odigo, the instant messaging service, says that two of its workers received messages two hours before the Twin Towers attack on September 11 predicting the attack would happen, and the company has been cooperating with Israeli and American law enforcement, including the FBI, in trying to find the original sender of the message predicting the attack.

Micha Macover, CEO of the company, said the two workers received the messages and immediately after the terror attack informed the company's management, which immediately contacted the Israeli security services, which brought in the FBI.

3. Nope
It's extremely reliable as an Israeli newspaper-of-record.

Ha'aretz is kind of like the New York Times (at least the way it used to be), the Times of London, Tokyo Shimbun or the Washington Post. You may not agree with its editorial position, but they are sticklers for truth in reporting.

4. No, it isn't

Although I've seen reports in Ha'aretz that were not confirmed elsewhere, I would call it a serious paper. One that reminds me that Israel is not only Likud.

9. If one wanted to know how cranky the Jerusalem Post is,
I'd suggest a stop by the I/P forum; it is offered up as a source quite regularly and consistantly lives up to a wide variety of harsh adjectives.

5. Nice to see that this little piece hasn't sunk completely out of sight
I remember this tidbit being batted around right after 911, nice to see it surface again. Though from what I remember about the piece, the original articles were stating several more than two people were alerted.

8. Not entirely true..

(about the dating of articles, that is; this indeed is 3yrs old)

They date articles when they're updated/edited after being submitted. This obviously wasn't altered, so is left dateless..

The date at the top is the current t/d, before somebody suggests that.

Odigo: Instant Messages Warned Of Terrorist Attacks

By Ryan Naraine
Two employees at New York-based instant messaging start-up Odigo received IM warnings about two hours before the aerial attacks in two U.S cities, the company confirmed Friday.

Odigo, which has a satellite office in Israel, said employees there received pop-up text messages containing advance warning of the attacks but said the IMs did not mention the World Trade Center specifically, or any other targets.

The contents of the IM messages, including the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the sender, was given to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Odigo spokesman Alex Diamandis told atNewYork.

"Without going into details, the message was most noteworthy due to the timing, not due to the substance of the 'warning.' It could easily be coincidence," Diamandis said.

NEW YORK -- OFFICIALS at instant-messaging firm Odigo confirmed today that two employees received text messages warning of an attack on the World Trade Center two hours before terrorists crashed planes into the New York landmarks. Citing a pending investigation by law enforcement, the company declined to reveal the exact contents of the message or to identify the sender.

Odigo Clarifies Attack Messages

Newsbytes (The Washington Post)
September 28, 2001

An official at Odigo today made a more substantial comment on warnings the instant messaging firm received prior to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The company's vice president of sales and marketing acknowledged that messages warning of attacks were received but would not comment on the contents of the messages. He had replied to a question about whether he could confirm that Odigo had received messages warning about the World Trade Center attacks. A sender in the alt.politics.bush newsgroup had written on Tuesday that Odigo workers received messages two hours before the Twin Towers attack on Sept. 11 predicting the attack would happen. The incident was also the subject of a report in the Ha'aretz daily newspaper in Israel, which on Wednesday quoted Odigo CEO Micha Macover as saying that "two workers received the messages predicting the attack would happen."

14. Not Latest Breaking News
It does look like this is an old article.
However, it might make an interesting topic for General Discussion if you would like to bring it up again there.
