Bush Speaks Against Human Trafficking
By PETE YOST, Associated Press Writer

TAMPA, Fla. - President Bush (news - web sites) on Friday urged aggressive law enforcement to combat the crime of human trafficking, as the president zeroed in on a critical section of Florida's electorate that could tip the state to Bush or John Kerry (news - web sites) in November.

"Human life is the gift of our Creator. It should never be for sale," Bush told a Justice Department (news - web sites) conference with participants including the president's brother, Jeb, Florida's governor.

Bush's remarks at the first-ever national training conference on human trafficking address an issue of vital concern to Evangelical Christians, one of the most important components of Bush's political base nationally. Conservative religious groups around the country have helped focus the White House's attention on trafficking. Florida is one of five states that have passed laws against human trafficking.

Kerry's campaign criticized Bush, saying the Clinton administration focused significant attention on the issue and that Bush waited too long to submit an international protocol against trafficking to the U.S. Senate.

Slaves shouldn't be bought and sold when you can pay them minimum wage or less. Isn't that the Republican way?

3. "Human life is the gift of our Creator."
Since I'm not religious, I never understand "X is gift from God" crap. (X could be freedom, life, a pizza...)

I'm sure there were wack jobs in the 1800's that said "Slavery is a gift from the Creator"...

6. Hilarious!! He has to pander to his BIBLE BASE!!!
The fact that he is bringing up Mighty Invisible Man in The Sky at every speech is evidence he is quite aware some of the religious folks have turned against him! But why????

Oh, I don't know Bubble Boy, maybe it's torture, lies, unnecessary war, and just general mass mayhem.

He can't be pandering to his Bible base. The Bible says that slavery is okay, as long as the slaves are from another country.

13. Oh ye forgets...
His Bible Base doesn't actually listen to the context of his speeches...they just zone in on the use of words like "God" "The Almighty Creator" "baby-killers" etc. etc.

They're like pets in a way... like how you talk to your cat and would like to believe they are listening to your every word...but when they go to the door it is because they heard...

"blah blah blah blabedty blah blah blah go outside blah bladitty blah"

see?

"blah blah blah blabedty blah blah blah Almight Creator blah bladitty blah"

8. a different spin from AFP
Bush says US has 'particular duty' to lead the fight against human trafficking, slams Cuba

37 minutes ago Add Politics - AFP to My Yahoo!

TAMPA, United States (AFP) - The United States has a "particular" duty to lead the worldwide fight against the illicit trade in people for sex and forced labor, President George W. Bush (news - web sites) said, calling it "an affront to the defining premise of our country."

"This trade in human beings brings suffering and shame to our country and we will lead the fight against it," Bush said.

At a training conference for law enforcement and community leaders here, Bush singled out Fidel Castro (news - web sites)'s Cuba as one of the world's worst violators. Florida, a key battleground state in the US presidential race, is home to some 800,000 mostly anti-Castro Cuban-Americans.

"The regime of Fidel Castro has turned Cuba into a major destination for sex tourism," replacing Southeast Asia as a favored destination for pedophiles from the United States and Canada, Bush charged.

Is he going to pre-emptively invade and occupy Cuba next?

41. compare the 2 sentences
calling it "an affront to the defining premise of our country."

"This trade in human beings brings suffering and shame to our country and we will lead the fight against it,"

There is no way in hell the chimperor said 'affront' or 'defining premise'. He knows not the meaning of either.

The 2nd sentence, I Blieve -'suffering and shame'...'lead the fight' Now THAT'S our squatter.

Talks about illegal WMD -- we have illegal WMD in the US.

And so on.

He's probably on steroids to boot.

16. oh really......

In the 2005 budget, Sye said, Bush proposed cutting $20-million from a Department of Justice budget for a program that aided trafficking victims.

On the other hand, Bush created a new office on human trafficking and a special visa allowing trafficking victims to stay in the United States even if they are here illegally.

21. Hypocrites!
Perhaps Bush and his pals could really set an example in the campaign against "human trafficking" by outlawing the kind of sweatshop labor of which so many American companies are so fond and which enslaves people around the globe -- especially women and children.

Like going to Mars--I thought at the time, where in hell did this come from? Are we supposed to forget everything else now--"Look everyone, human trafficking!--forget about Iraq, Abu Ghraib, Medigate, Plame, all the books, the movie, the New York Times!!
