AP Seeks Release of Bush Military Records

AP Seeks Release of Bush Military Records

5 minutes ago Add White House - AP to My Yahoo!

WASHINGTON - The Associated Press asked a federal judge Friday to order the Pentagon (news - web sites) to quickly turn over a full copy of President Bush (news - web sites)'s military service record.

The White House has released partial documentation of Bush's military service in the Texas Air National Guard but has not complied with the news service's Freedom of Information Act request for any record archived at a state library records center in Texas, the AP said in a court filing.

Records released so far do not put to rest questions over whether Bush fulfilled his National Guard service for a period during the Vietnam War, the AP argued in papers filed in federal court in New York.

53. "they filed suit some weeks ago..."
I've been telling them for some time where to look and what to ask for in FOIA's. The Pentagon is stonewalling, not realizing there are at least 3 former officers telling me how to direct their legal search. The latest is a motion asking the judge to order the release of ALL documents within three days because the WH has delayed and dragged it on lying and stating they released everything in 2000 and again in February. They must realize by now there are duplicate copies of the microfiche and we know it. If the WH continues to stonewall and lie, the two page disciplinary document signed by his commanding officer, LTC Jerry Killian, deeming him "unreliable" and grounding him for substance abuse will come out before the election.

I do not have the document, but there are several copies floating around.

I think it's great they haven't let this story die, but I thought the Pentagon announced, just a week or so ago, that the microfiche had be accidently destroyed. Does AP not believe that, of do they think there are still some paper records hanging around?

20. Well do You believe the Pentagon?
Why should the AP? It is, after all, their business to get to the bottom of the story, report the facts even when they sometimes have to take extraordinary measures to get them. They are doing what they are supposed to do. It's their job.

Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 03:58 PM by rmpalmer
From the article:

There also are allegations that potentially embarrassing material was removed from Bush's military file in 1997, when he was running for re-election as Texas governor, the AP said.

Come on AP! Was it AP in on the recent Felon Roll down in FL being made public Looks like in '04 some news outlets are paying some attention.

42. I wonder about that...
Col. Bill Burkett took a lot of heat for saying that the Texas guard records had been cleansed in 1997 or so, when Bush was running for a second term as governor:

http://www.discourse.net/archives/2004/02/calpundit_interviews_bill_burkett_on_cleansed_bush_files.html

My understanding was that there were two sets of paper copies, one held by the Texas Guard and one by the Denver office of the National Guard (the entire national guard's records repository). Whether the Pentagon or Denver had the microfiche record, I'm not sure.

If the AP is seeking the records in Texas, those may already have been diddled with--unless there's another set in Texas somewhere.

Cheers.

The Denver microfilm was destroyed. The AP knows those weren't the only relevant records:

"Texas law requires separate record keeping for state National Guard service, and those records should exist on microfilm in Austin, the AP said."

52. "AP Seeks Release of Bush Military Records"
Where do you think they are getting the directions and
information on where to look and what to ask for? I've been
reporting the facts on AOL political message boards and even
here once or twice for months exactly what they are
hiding...and several copies of the documents are floating
around. I do not have them and do not know who does. I am
told they will be released before the election. W is just
going to have to bite the bullet and take the heat for the
cover up of his past.

What they are SO desperately hiding is a two page disciplinary
counseling report signed by his commanding officer, LTC Jerry
Killian, deeming him "unreliable" and grounding him
for substance abuse under the Human Reliability Program.
That's why he didn't get his required flight physical. He
knew he'd never fly again. Dan Bartlett allegedly removed a
section of his file known as the Unfavorable Information File
(UIF). They are switching the document numbers around to hide
the gaps in the records. W wasn't dishonorably discharged or
busted and sent to Viet Nam because his father was Nixon's
Ambassador to China.

I hope this answers everyone's questions.

56. I'm betting the substance abuse finding is based on a civil arrest record.
That's why he did 6 months of community service in Houston. The fucker's a felon. (Although he probably only got misdemeanor possession ... of cocaine.) James R. Bath was probably nailed along with him and got a lifetime income for keeping it secret.
