6. link...AP just added a blurb to the M. Stewart article
~snip~
Peter Bacanovic, the high-powered stockbroker who was convicted along with Stewart of lying about her stock sale in December 2001, received the same sentence of five months in prison and five months home confinement.

7. they got the same sentence
5 months in prison followed by 5 months house arrest. Then 2 years probation. Baconovic got a smaller fine than Martha, though.

8. I see. Thanks for clarifying that.
The story I read on Martha didn't mention the house arrest part of her sentence.

10. well I didn't word it very clearly, either
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 02:37 PM by Dookus
but I think both sentences are bullshit. Never should've even gone to trial. They shoulda been offered a misdemeanor plea and a fine.

9. Does anybody know what Martha meant
when she said outside the Courthouse that this had been a "small personal matter" that had grown to "fatal" proportions? I wondered if she had been sick or had had death threats? Anyone know or care to speculate?

12. She was chiding the Gov't
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 02:55 PM by Myrina
... for making her the scapegoat of their "go after white collar crime" blah-blah-blah when it was blatantly obvious that they should have been turning over rocks to get Lay's greedy arse behind bars instead of hers... and the resulting bad press etc caused lost jobs for people in her company and possibly damaged her career for Gawd knows how long.

edit: can't spell, it's Friday.

14. She should know she is no Bush who can order SEC to close investigation
into his insider trading (despite the on the record letter from the firms lawyers that told him he could not trade on the info because that would be insider trading).

When will Martha learn that the GOP rules - those that say they can break laws and not be punished if rich - do not apply to rich Dems?

:-)
