Rapper blames Bush for 9/11 in new song
http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/07/16/music.jadakiss.bush.ap/index.html

NEW YORK (AP) -- Over the years, the rapper Jadakiss has depicted a world of drug dealing, murder and other assorted mayhem without raising many eyebrows.

But seven words in his new song "Why" -- "Why did Bush knock down the towers?" -- has gotten Jadakiss the most mainstream attention, and criticism, of his career.

"It caught the ear of white America," he said proudly during a phone interview with The Associated Press. "It's a good thing. No matter what you do, somebody's not going to like it, but for the most part, most people love the song."

---snip---

Jadakiss doesn't really believe Bush ordered the towers destroyed -- he says the line is a metaphor, and that Bush should take the blame for the terrorist attack because his administration didn't do enough to stop it.

"They didn't follow up on a lot of things properly," says Jadakiss. "It's the president of the United States. The buck stops with him

---snip---

He talks up "Fahrenheit 9/11" as an important, must-see movie -- he's watched it twice -- and he's even registering to vote in the upcoming presidential election, a first for him. (He backs John Kerry.) He wants the minimum wage raised and more jobs created.

6. Paris rapped about this two years ago in the song "What would you do?".
I'm not really up to date on current rappers other than what trickles into my computer -- is Jadakiss more famous than Paris or something? I've actually never heard of him before.

Just seems like there's another motive for CNN covering this (obviously...yes I know). Is it because Jadakiss seems to be more of a corporate gangster rapper, and thus is a more useful focus for CNN (instead of, say, Paris or PE or KRS-One or Michael Franti, who've all come out with songs with similar themes in the last 3 years)?

I don't want to cast any bad light on Jadakiss since I don't know much about him -- and the more who bring the message out to the people the better -- but CNN deciding to talk about his song in a news piece, when there are many other rappers (and more eloquent rappers) of equal fame who've been ignored on the same subject smells like a tactic.

9. And not just rappers...
...LOTS of people have been saying this. Hell, MILLIONS marched in the streets saying "BUSH LIES!!!" But the media COMPLETELY ignored it, and they swallowed every bit of "bad intel" they were fed by BushCo and "Curveball".

15. They don't swallow it, they support it and report it with a purpose.
It may be time to start protesting the media for it's total mass manipulation of the public.

he's been anti-Bush since the first Bush, when he wrote an open letter to Bush I on one of his albums.

19. For a *real* anti-Bush rap check out the Geto Boyz
They made "F*ck A War" ("We Can't Be Stopped" album) during Bushdaddy's term, and it still is appropriate today.

Here's a snip:
"Mutha F*ck a war, that's how I feel.
Sending a n*gga to the desert to get killed.
'Cuz two suckas can't agree on something,
A thousand mothaf*ckers die for nothing..."

...

"I ain't getting my leg shot off,
while Bush's old ass on TV playing golf..."

20. You can support his free speech rights by buying the CD
If sales go up instead of down, other artists will be less afraid to speak out.

Even if you don't agree with his comment, he has a right to say it.
