Sept. 11 Commission to Release 1998 Clinton Report
By Tabassum Zakaria

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks will release a 1998 CIA (news - web sites) document to then President Bill Clinton (news - web sites) that warned of possible hijackings of airliners and will discuss al Qaeda links to Iran in its report, government officials said on Friday.

The bipartisan commission has been investigating government failures related to the 2001 hijacked plane attacks, in which nearly 3,000 people died, and is expected to release its final report next week.

Included in the report will be a declassified version of a 1998 President's Daily Brief, a highly secret document that only a select group of government officials ever see.

It will be the second such document to be made public under commission pressure.

1. It will show the difference btwn the Post Bush PDB vs Pre Bush PDB

It will show how Dumbya brought it the PDB down to his level of reading.

He told Reuters it referred to a specific hijacking threat in the United States. The commission report will also "describe an energetic response to that (1998) report," Zelikow said.

Clinton = Enetgetic, Dumbya = Dumb

2. I'm sure this report probably motivated Bill
to put together the bi-partisan commission Gary Hart was on. Of course, their report was shelved just after 1/21/01.

the OTHER ("such document to be made public under commission pressure") one will NOT be the one CHimpy received on August 6, 2001.

No doubt, Rush/Faux will spin the existence of this memo for ALL IT'S WORTH saying, in effect, that "Clinton got a memo back in 1998 describing 'the same thing' as bushit got on 8/6/01 and he did NOTHING ..."

Even though:
1) We'll never know if it's "the same", since the other one has never been made public,
2) Clinton IM SURE DID "do something", in fact, probably LOTS of somethings, and
3) It was probably not accompanied by warnings from like 10 other countries saying that an attack was IMMINENT, like Chimpy did...

along with countless other 'differences'. But you know the VRWC will COUNT on the sheeple's wanton ignorance to lie and spin repeatedly about this memo ...

On Edit:
"An Aug. 6, 2001, report to President Bush (news - web sites) titled "Bin Ladin Determined to Strike in US" was released by the White House in April under pressure from the commission. " - EXCUSE ME? When, exactly, did THIS happen? If it DID, I'm sure it was so highly redacted as to have been totally distorted and worthless. WHere can I see publically view the contents of this memo?

14. Yes, they released it in April.
There were three or four redactions of the names of the countries whose security services had identified a couple of specific pieces of intelligence, and they were pretty easy to identify even with the very minor redactions.

6. no evidence that Iran helped al Qaeda with the Sept. 11

But the sources said there was no evidence that Iran helped al Qaeda with the Sept. 11 attacks in which four hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon (news - web sites) near Washington and a field in Pennsylvania.

7. The thing is though.....
there is FAR more evidence linking Al Qaeda to Iran than to Iraq. The obvious question then becomes "What the hell were we doing going after Iraq and not Iran?". It becomes very easy to make the case that the Iraq war had little to nothing to do with terrorism and Al Qaeda, and more to do with personal vendettas/oil, choose whichever flavor you prefer.

Actually this document sounds damning to Bush for other reasons as well but I will wait to see it before getting carried away.

8. Condi claimed it was impossible
to conceive of using airplanes as missiles.

The 1998 memo exposes that falsehood

13. I'm with you Myrina... seems like we are getting all buttered up
for the Iran invasion! Especially considering the other link here where some admin offical stated that it was all but a sure deal!

Fasten those seat belts...it's going to be a bumpy ride! Oh, and don't forget the goggles and wet suits for all the spilled blood for oil!

9. This could make the repubs look bad
Didn't they block his anti-terrorism agenda, as well as the actions he took against bin Laden in Afghanistan? This will disprove the 'wag the dog' charges.
