Accusations of Voter Intimidation in Fla.
Accusations of Voter Intimidation in Fla.
By MIKE BRANOM
Associated Press Writer

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)--State investigators looking into possible ballot fraud in the city's disputed mayoral race have been accused of intimidating elderly black voters.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents revealed their sidearms while contacting people whose absentee ballots are under question, Voter Protection Coalition spokeswoman Alma Gonzalez said Friday.

``You can't do that to old black people who fought hard for the right to vote and, in fact, have seen law enforcement utilized in this kind of intimidating and harassing way through the civil rights movement,'' Gonzalez said.

The voters' rights group believes the investigation of Mayor Buddy Dyer's campaign workers--who concentrated on absentee ballots in their get-out-the-vote efforts--disenfranchises minorities.

Send the article to Al Jazeera I hope the Iraqis laugh when they see this go down in a "free" and "democratic" society such as ours.

2. Where is Jimmy Carter?
How many trips has he made to give presence and whatever else he did to ensure that voting was honest? What has he said about our dire straits? I think some representatives from Scandinavia and/or Palau should come and help us.

It is being (has been purchased) by our major corporations. Isn't that special?

It has been run over by special interest and influence peddlers...

4. I am sure that many people here remember the hearings that Mary
Berry chaired after the 2000 elections. Person after person testified about this issue. I remember one of the most horrifying was a
black minister who told the election officials that he was glad to
be able to vote. A few minutes later she looked out the window and saw this same man with his hands over his head or in some kind of
police position. Heartbreaking. There were also people who had Bush
Cheney stickers on their cars who were handing out fliers of people hanging from trees near the polling places. Polling places were moved without notice. This makes me so angry I can't type anymore.

It must be great to be the backbone of the "moral" majority.
