(David) Kay Criticizes Bush, Blair on Iraq Intel
LONDON -- President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair should have realized before going to war that intelligence on Iraqi weapons was weak and did not indicate Saddam Hussein posed a danger to the West, America's former chief weapons inspector in Iraq said Sunday.

David Kay resigned from the CIA in January and his conclusion then that Iraq did not have stockpiles of forbidden weapons caused serious problems for both Bush and Blair, undercutting their main justification for war.

He told Britain's ITV network that Bush and Blair "should have been able to tell before the war that the evidence did not exist for drawing the conclusion that Iraq presented a clear, present and imminent threat on the basis of existing weapons of mass destruction."
...
Kay said analysts were facing pressure to support the belief that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction.

"Anything that showed Iraq didn't have weapons of mass destruction had a much higher gate to pass because if it were true, all of U.S. policy towards Iraq would have fallen asunder," he said in the interview.

1. How naive of him

Doesnt he understand, the decision had been made to invade Iraq.

It was just a question of finding - or fabricating - a rationale that the public and COngress would swallow.

By lies if necessary.

2. I am surprised by David Kay
He acts like he wasn't in on the game all along. Maybe he really wasn't. It seems hard to believe anyone could rise that high in the BFEE world and not know that the whole thing was a farce, though. Maybe he just wants to get while the gettings good.

7. Not in favor of the chaos
Where did you hear that? Kerry has railed against the chaos from day one. Yeah, he voted to keep America safe, he voted to have inspectors find WMD if they could, and he voted for UN involvement, he never voted for the chaos that boosh has created.

8. Nah, I think he got wise to the idea that they
were thinking about pinning a lot of these intelligence problems on him and he hit them first.
