Lawmaker arrested for alleged lewdness

A state representative from West Maui allegedly approached a plainclothes police officer outside a Kapiolani Park restroom and groped his crotch, police said.

Rep. Brian K. Blundell (R, Olowalu-Kapalua) was arrested for fourth-degree sexual assault, a misdemeanor offense, for an incident which allegedly took place at 11:15 p.m. across from the Diamond Head Tennis Center, 3908 Paki Ave.

You should not arrest him, destroy his life and family, and humiliate him nationally. The punishment just doesn't fit the crime. I know he's a Republican, and I know they are pure evil. But for Christ's sake, he's an adult widower who decided to walk on the wild side. Maybe he is a hypocrite, but thats about the worst I can say about the man based on the story given.

Police said Blundell was arrested by a Waikiki Crime Reduction Unit undercover officer who was in the area because of complaints about homosexual advances. Blundell approached the officer and groped him, police said....

Police said that particular restroom, which is known as the "Paki bathrooms," is well-known among officers as one of the places where sexual solicitation happens often late at night.

Clearly it's not as though Blundell was, say, shopping in Ala Moana Center and suddenly decided to cop himself a feel. The incident took place after 11 p.m., in a largely residential area opposite a large park, which is unlit, so not much reason to be over there, besides the obvious.

And yes, I'd be every bit as much on top of this if the officer groped by Mr. Family Values had been female. Heck, if he were only Austrian, they could run him for governor... </sarcasm>
