Maryland Activists Want E-Voting Receipts
Melanie Vaughan-West arrived at the Maryland State House in Annapolis last Tuesday to demand something she never had before -- a receipt for her vote.

The pastor of the nearby Broadneck Baptist Church gathered with approximately 100 other people in front of the state capitol to add her voice to the small-but-growing chorus of complaints that electronic touch-screen voting machines are more susceptible to fraud and manipulation than their paper-based predecessors.

1. Thanks for posting that.
I was there. And it was, in fact, very hot, but a good day.

2. Need receipts
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 04:14 PM by biftonnorton
I don't know why these machines were designed without capacity to give hardcopy receipts. If people start screaming about the costs of providing a paper receipt for a vote remind 'em, "Freedom ain't free." Also, seems weird to me that the process of receipt printing is so easy and deemed necessary at the neighborhood grocery store, and there the most important thing to worry about is using the recipt to verify purchase to help with getting a refund for sour milk.
