US 'exploring Iranian 9/11 role'

US 'exploring Iranian 9/11 role'

The CIA says eight hijackers passed through Iran
President George W Bush has said the US is exploring whether Iran had a role in the 11 September 2001 terror attacks.

"We're digging into the facts to see if there was one," Mr Bush told reporters at the White House.

His comments come after the CIA's acting chief said some of the hijackers passed through Iran, but there was no evidence Iran was officially involved.

"We have no evidence that there is some sort of official connection between Iran and 9/11"
John McLaughlin, acting director CIA

1. Gearing up for a new war!
Guarantee it! He's going to move them straight from Iraq into Iran! That fucking prick will NOT get away with it this time!

2. I agree.
Otherwise, why trot this out now?

And by the way, I don't think he'll actually _launch_ a new war before the elections. Iran is like 5 times the size of Iraq with a much stronger army. I think what he's hoping for is that rattling sabres alone can bring up his popularity.

11. Iraq is indeed a great launching point...
Either from the tactical or strategic points of view.

Hear me out.

Strategically, invading Iraq cut off Syria and Iran from the rest of the world. With the US controlling Iraq, both countries are now surrounded by states that either are moderately unfriendly terms with them, or downright hostile. Classic divide and conquer tactics, right?

With pitiful border security, hotheads from Syria and Iran start pouring into Iraq to kill infidels, boosting Administration claims that these countries are part of the axis of evil and therefore need to be attacked, and soon. Bush created a self-fulfilling prophesy. From there, its just getting out the spin.

Tactically, with Kuwait a jumping off point an Iraq's military beaten up pretty good in the Gulf War, winning the war was an absolute lock. It was also certain to stir up a hornet's nest, which was something I think was part of the plan all along. Iraq is nothing more than a kill zone, an excuse to kill insurgents and go after other countries in the region.

I wish he'd planned "the peace" this well...

30. Look at a map
The poster is right; divide and conquer seems to be in full effect. What remains to be seen is what Bushco. can get away with. Let's face it, they have been able to act without being checked by any state or superstate entity.

It's up to the citizens of the U.S. to put a stop to this plan by giving Bush, Cheney et al the boot come November!

38. I agree, that is the plan, and GOP voter I talked to, loved it.
I talked to a GOP friend this morning. This guy has always supported the Iraq invasion, and Bush's idea of stealing their oil.

Today, he was very happy with this news of Bush's saber-rattling toward Iran. He said he thinks it will help get Bush re-elected.

5. Based upon comments I've seen
on other web sites, plus taking into account the mullacracy's direct and unequivical support of Hezbollah and similar operations, I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot stamp a few passports.

That said, what difference does it really make? In an of itself that is hardly damning evidence of active support of 9/11.

Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 03:14 PM by Q
- Could it be that the Saudi Connection to terror is never 'explored' because they're friends and business associates of the Bush family? And why has congress not demanded the release of the 28 pages of the 9-11 report that outlines Saudi involvement?

- The coverup continues....

Anybody who believes Bushistas have "intelligence" tying Iran to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda certainly hasn't followed Iran's antipathy to both Taliban and Al-Qaeda (stretching over some years).

And Americans, with average or better smarts, are beginning by now to suspect that the Administration has real problems interpreting "intelligence" when ordinary everyday reality conflicts with ideological goals.

36. From one of the above threads:
Lost Chances in Iran
By David Ignatius
Friday, July 9, 2004; Page A19

<snip>
What's poignant about these wary U.S.-Iranian feelers is that just over a year ago, they yielded a plan for an "anti-terrorist" deal that both countries should have loved: Iran would hand over some senior al Qaeda operatives in its custody and the United States would transfer to Iran some prisoners it was holding from the Iraqi-backed Mujaheddin-e Khalq organization, a group America has officially branded as terrorist.

The State Department is said to have favored such a deal, but the Pentagon balked -- arguing that the Mujaheddin-e Khalq might be useful in fomenting regime change in Tehran. Sadly, this internal dispute between administration pragmatists and ideologues over Iran is similar to the feuds that have obstructed policy on North Korea and Iraq.

21. It looks more and more like "bomb Iran" is the October surprise
I can't see Bush getting into another ground war, but it seems more and more likely that he will make a limited air assault on Iran, backed by nuclear sabre rattling to ensure Iran doesn't seriously fight back. It will mostly be for show, to generate a patriotic rush of good feeling in the U.S., in the hope that it wins the election for him.

My guess is that come early October, they will "uncover" a document (probably forged) in Afghanistan that links Iran and Ossama. The press will call that "Doc Oc", and make stupid comparisons with Spiderman to whip up war fever. Well, the last part is pure invention, but don't be surprised.

Surely Americans and the rest of the world would NOT support an invasion and occupation of Iran.

37. I don't understand--why is he thumping his chest like an ape
in a dominance gester? If he really wanted to invade or regime change Iran, why is he putting out the plan for everybody to see and practically bragging about it?

Unless he knows the election will be fixed in some way and that it is certain he will be president for four more years

Or is he trying to bait and switch Kerry? Hoping Kerry will make some statement, thereby defining the debate here--and a made up debate at this point.
