Gallup: Majority of Adults Expect to See Fahrenheit 9/11
Democrats, Republicans express sharply divided views

by David W. Moore

GALLUP NEWS SERVICE

PRINCETON, NJ -- According to the most recent Gallup survey, more than half of all American adults (56%) either have seen or expect, at some time, to see Michael Moore's controversial movie, Fahrenheit 9/11, a highly critical look at the Bush administration's decision to fight a war in Iraq. The poll was conducted July 8-11. At the time, 8% of Americans said they have already seen the movie, 18% expected to see it in the theater, and 30% expected to watch the video. Among all Americans, more people have an unfavorable than favorable impression of the movie, but those who have seen it are overwhelmingly favorable.

Intentions to see the film are highly related to people's political party orientation, but the survey shows that even a significant number of Republicans -- 38% -- have seen or plan to see the documentary despite its critical stance toward Bush. More than 7 in 10 Democrats (71%) and 6 in 10 independents (60%) also have seen or expect to see the film, with about half of each of these groups planning to see it in a theater and the other half on video.

13. I disagree.
I took a friend with me who had declared herself Republican, but hadn't even voted in the last election. She just thought she was a Republican because her parents had been Republican and her husband was Republican. She WEPT throughout the film and has now volunteered to work for the Kerry campaign. I'll be at a DNC party at her house next week. She's actively trying to convert everyone she knows. But, most importantly, she has registered to vote! I think there are a lot of people like her in this country - people who have never really thought about or looked at the issues for themselves. For those people, this movie is having an enormous impact, and that will certainly add up in the end.

14. DVD out in September
Moore wants it released on DVD in time for the Repug convention.

He's also planning on adding new footage to the DVD, along with many special features.

5. That's an amazingly high figure.
For a controversial movie, which is clearly against Bush. Bush is finished. He might as well forget it.

And HE's the star of the show. Those are clips of him, his own words coming out of his mouth, that are tightening the noose on him.

He has no one to blame but himself. And that's what people are saying: it's the clips of Bush that are the most damning.

9. Wow... I'd fear for Michael Moore's life if he does that documentary
(i.e., Israel and US)...... I think the knives would come out from so many directions, regardless of the tone and slant... (yes, even more than the BFEE cabal and their ruthless sycophants).

10. His next project is healthcare.
The long knives are slamming this current project in anticipation. US healthcare is so ripe for attack that they have very little ground to stand on.

17. So I should probably expect MM to be lurking around my local hospital
I can just imagine a splitscreen.

Left screen: Canadian hospital, small lineup at emergency, somebody comes in, shows health card, gets taken care of and out the door - total cost $0.00

Right screen: US hospital, fucking chaos in emergency, somebody comes in, has to fill out a bazillion forms or can't get insurance/credit validated and has to go to different hospital where he finds absolute fucking havoc in emergency, repeat as necessary

23. remember TV Nation's "Health Care Olympics"?

That was funny (and tragic). As I recall, Canada actually lost to Cuba (once they factored in the inequities in resources).

He spoke at my college once and was asked about Israel and Palestine, he said he didn't want to talk about it.

8. Thank you Michael Moore!
It cannot be said too many times.

Moore has continued to stand up to Bush when others won't and he deserves all of the money and fame he gets in return.

Many thanks. One person tried to use the Linda Ronstahdt casino fiasco to justify that most Americans despised Moore's movie...no cigar for that moron.

:wtf:

Oh, I get it. Fox has told everybody it's a horrible movie, but those who actually see the movie like it.

20. Been there
Just had an ignorant friend tell me "well you know that movie is full of lies, don't you?" Upon further review, he "learned" that from Fox. He hasn't seen it, and refuses to see it - even for free.

21. 56% of American adults? Isn't that like 110 million people?
I'm certainly comforted by this news, but it's hard to believe that they'll all go and actually see it in the theater or on home video.

Otherwise, Fahrenheit 9/11 is on its way to grossing upwards of $700M domestically. Add in the overseas receipts, and Moore is looking at the first BILLION-DOLLAR GROSSING documentary in history.

Um, I don't think so.

planning to.

The rest will wait for video.
