W.Va. Residents Fear Possible Sniper
Police stopped black pickup trucks in this small town and residents warily went about their errands as authorities investigated three recent shooting deaths that could be the work of a single sniper.

"How could it happen here?" asked resident Danny Canterbury as he shopped Saturday for groceries in the Appalachian town of 864 about 20 miles east of Charleston.

Police confirmed Friday that three shootings at Charleston-area convenience stores - one Aug. 10 and two Thursday - could be the work of a single sniper.

Police stopped black trucks with tinted windows and extended cabs after witnesses described a truck seen near a Cedar Grove store where one of the shootings took place. A black pickup also was seen in the Campbells Creek area, Kanawha County Chief Deputy Sheriff Phil Morris said.

1. I read about this in the Washington Post but what I didn't read about was
that there was about another brutal murder in a small Appalachian town. On July 21 a mentally retarded man was brutally attacked and murdered in the small city of Cumberland, MD during the weekend free concert on that town's mall. This murder shocked the people of Cumberland, things like that just don't happen in this town where people often leave their houses unlocked. I was in Cumberland last weekend visiting a friend when I heard about this murder.

So is society breaking down and is this a sign when poverty and hopelessness in these Appalachian areas turns to violence?

Are there still places where people keep their doors unlocked?

:-(

3. My doors are unlocked
the only time they are locked is when there is a strong east wind that will blow open the main door. What I found strange was watching the news last night and the Governor was telling people to go out in pairs, now this is probably thinking two sets of eyes are better than one, but, it would seem to me to be enriching the target area. Now, the sniper will have two people to shoot at instead of one made me ask myself wtf?
