Iraq vet(Blind, Lost Leg) to stand trial in altercation with grandfather

A disabled Iraq war veteran accused of pointing a loaded handgun at his grandfather is headed to trial on criminal charges, despite allegations his accuser gave police and a magistrate differing versions of the incident.

Salvatore "Sam" Ross Jr., 21, of 178 Brick Road, Dunbar, was ordered to stand trial on charges of harassment and recklessly endangering another person after a preliminary hearing Tuesday before District Justice Dwight Shaner, of Dunbar Township. Shaner dismissed a charge of simple assault.

State police at Uniontown allege Ross pointed the gun at the head of Joseph Frank Ross Sr., of Church Hill Road, Dunbar Township, during a confrontation at 9:30 p.m. April 2 outside the younger Ross' mobile home.

Sam Ross moved into the singlewide mobile home -- which is the object of an ownership dispute between the two Rosses -- shortly after his return to Fayette County last July from serving with the U.S. Army. His military career ended prematurely when a bomblet he was clearing for disposal in Iraq exploded. He lost a leg and was blinded.

3. There's going to be a lot of this in the coming years

And now that the conservatives have used these men for political points they will simply be thrown out like dirty laundry. It will be like that scene in the movie "Born on the 4th of July" at the Republican Convention in 1972. There, if you remember, Ron Kovic and a group of Vietnam Veterans against the war made it to the convention floor during Richard Nixon's speech. The delegates hounded, booed and hissed at them calling them "traitors" and "communists". I have no doubt that there will be a new generation of Republican chickenhawks ready to perform this function as Iraq war vets limp home.
