Bush-Mart vs Kerry and Costco
Edited on Wed Jul-21-04 01:34 AM by JI7
the only reasons Kerry's policies may "hurt" wall mart is because of their disgusting business practices which don't care about the workers and only about profit at the expense of environment, worker's rights, safety etc. if they have those type of business practices there should be something to "hurt" them from continuing it.

<Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer and owner of Sam's Club warehouse stores, gives more money to Republican candidates than any other company. Its top three managers, including chief executive Lee Scott, have donated the individual maximum $2 000 to President George W Bush. Jay Allen, the vice-president for corporate affairs, has raised at least $100 000 to re-elect the president.

Costco chief executive Jim Sinegal is a Democrat who says Bush's $1.7 trillion in tax cuts unfairly benefit the wealthy. He opposed the Iraq war and supports senator John Kerry for president. He's the only chief executive of a company in the Standard & Poor's 500 index to donate money to independent political groups formed to oust Bush, tax records show.

Kerry pledges to induce more employers to insure workers with a $257 billion proposal calling for the government to pay most so-called catastrophic healthcare costs - but only for companies that provide comprehensive coverage.

He'd raise the minimum wage and make it easier for workers to join unions.

Those policies may benefit Costco and hurt Wal-Mart.>

2. Fight Walmart, support Costco!
Walmart the ones that allegedly illegally used corporate money and marketing power to promote Dole during the last election cycle:

6. The Costco Model...
a great read..

http://www.jimhightower.com/air/read.asp?id=11410

<snip>
The nationwide retailer treats its 100,000 clerks, forklift operators, and other workers as valued assets to be invested in and nurtured – unlike the Wal-Mart model of paying the least you can to rank & file employees, squeezing the last ounce of toil out of each of them, busting any whisper of unionization, and causing a workforce turnover like employees are nothing but disposable coffee cups.
<end>

why is Costco the exception rather than the rule?

<snip>
From day one," says the chief financial officer at Costco, "we've run the company with the philosophy that if we pay better than average, provide a salary people can live on, have a positive environment and good benefits, we'll be able to hire better people, they'll stay longer and be more efficient." It works. Costco's turnover is minimal, its profits are consistently strong, and its stock price has quadrupled in 10 years.
<end>

:hi:

Great stuff, great prices, great employees....

Only problem is that I never come out of there spending less than $200....

I do love them and they also have the best prices around on photoprocessing...

12. I used to work for Costco
Costco is a great company that values its employees and pays/treats them fairly. I also have been boycotting WalMart for years. I spend my money at Costco - not a dime at WalMart.

13. Cosco is great - my only problem with them, and it is small, is that it is
sometimes hard to find stuff when they move it or when you are new to that store. They don't have many employees to help - which I understand - that is how they keep prices low - but maybe they could use universal product codes to track where things are in the store and have a couple of computer terminals where customers could look up the location of stuff?

16. No comparison
have been a member of Costco since 87. There is even a Sam's club that is about 3-4 miles closer to my house than the nearest Costco, but I have yet to set foot there. The customer service is exemplary. I don't like shopping at grocery stores much, so between the local fruit stand and Costco, shopping is pretty much done.

17. I've actually gotten better deals at Costco
Plus their workers are friendlier and don't look as overwork as Wal-Mart's employees.
