Libertarians will be on Texas election ballot
Libertarians will be on Texas election ballot
July 20, 2004

AUSTIN- The Libertarian Party has met the requirements to get its candidates on the Texas ballot for November's general election, the secretary of state's office said Tuesday.

As a third party, the Libertarians were required to submit a petition with 45,540 signatures of registered voters who had not voted in the Republican or Democratic primaries. The Libertarians produced 82,458 valid signatures, said Secretary of State Geoff Connor.

Michael Badnarik, 49, a computer programmer from Austin is the party's nominee for president.

1. Let's hope they do real well at...
... at cutting into Dubya's percentage in Texas. It's time they were a help and not a hindrance. :P

6. This Democratic Governor must have been a real treasure!
Too bad the Bushes decided George W. should take her job. I have heard they ran a FILTHY campaign.

I think she is a stupendous person, and a genuine Democrat.

10. No, not that solid
The 2000 popular vote was 39% Gore, 59% Bush. To me, that's an amazingly close vote, considering that Texas is supposed to be so Republican and that this is Bush's alleged home state. A swing of not too many percentage points and it could have gone the other way.

I think Kerry missed the opportunity to put Texas in play by passing on Clark as VP. Clark is very popular here because of his looks, his bio, and the fact that he was commander of Fort Hood in Central Texas. Kerry should at least have Clark touring widely here during the remainder of the campaign.

7. Enough Republicans are disgusted with Bush
that they will be glad they have an alternative to vote for. Most don't want to make the leap to the Dems. So I don't mind that they vote Badnarik at all :)

8. Libertarians oppose the PATRIOT Act
which means that they appreciate the Bill of Rights better than some of the "liberals-in-name-only" we see around here.

Repeal PATRIOT!

9. It may sound strange but
I think all Texan Democrats ought to campaign, promote and vote for Badnarik. Our vote for Kerry is likely to be nil in this state, but if we could show real movement in the polls for this guy it would put the Bush campaign in a tizzy. They would have to reallocate resourses and money to what they thought was a safe place. This would be turning the pugs stratagy with Nader in California during the 2000 elections. I think I'm going to get a Badnarik sticker for my truck and start talking this guy up. I suggest the same thing for other southern state dems. A vot for Badnarik in the red states may not be a vote for Kerry but it will sting the smug smirks off of the Pugs faces.

15. But are the Libs on the ballot in the swing states????
Anyone know what the status of the Lib Party ballot access in the swing states?

If we could just get the Libs and the Constitution Party candidates on the ballot in the closest swing states, it would all be over.
