Ice Cream Entrepreneur Totes Bush Effigy(liar, liar..pants on fire)
SPOKANE, Wash. - Call it the burning Bush. The co-founder of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream is on the road, towing a 12-foot-tall effigy of President Bush (news - web sites) with fake flames shooting out of the pants.

Ben Cohen says it's an acceptable way to point out what he calls the president's lies.

"In a polite society, you don't go up to a person and look at them in the face and say, 'You're a liar,'" Cohen said in a telephone interview before arriving in Spokane, the next stop on the Pants on Fire Tour.

"We think it's a lot more dignified and there's a lot more decorum to say, 'Excuse me sir, your pants are getting a little warm, don't you think?'" Cohen said.

2. Bush has an asbestos asshole...
That's the only explanation for how he keeps lying.

3. But an old guy gets 3 years in jail for saying "Burning Bush"?
I can't remember his name, you know, the guy that made a joke about being lead by a "burning bush" and the SS charged him with threatening to douse the Pretzeldunce with kero and lighting him?

Yeah, Shrub "enjoys freedom of speech" alright, as long as it others who do the neck-stepping-on.

Also....Ben and Jerry's is now owned by the evil Unilever. The same company that owns "Slim-Fast" who fired Whoopie for speaking her mind, even though she wasn't hawking that glop at the time.

See? if we boycott everyone who deserves it, we'll either starve or be reduced to living in mud huts, wearing furs. Oh, can't wear furs, that's not KIND...

10. I've been eating Baskin Robbins lately, anyways
I like their chocolate chip the best. I like Ben and Jerry's, but you don't get that much ice cream for your money.

Chocolate chip has always been my favorite-HOJOs had the best when I was a kid, but there are no HOJOs left in the Detroit area-I think there's one still in Bay City. Baskin Robbins' is very similar.

11. Choco-chip and cookie dough....
Ice cream, alas, is an OCCASSIONAL guilty pleasure these days...

Fancy stuff aside, y'know, it's pretty hard to beat the plain old cheap 49-cent ice cream "sandwich". 2 chocolate-flavoured wafers with a slice of ice cream in between...

YUM!

23. Thanks for bringing this up, BiggJawn
I was thinking of the hypocrisy of the whole thing. Some poor slob who made a stupid joke in a tavern is spending 3 years in an Oregon jail. But if your famous, it's OK?

Time to write a real sarcastic letter to the SS.

5. Ben & Jerry's is part of Unilever (Slim-Fast) who fired Whoopi
http://www.unilever.co.uk/ourbrands/company_benjerry.html

I was planning to boycott all Unilever products, but I think I'll have to make an exception with Ben & Jerry's ice cream...

6. Do Ben and Jerry actually own Ben and Jerry these days?
I think they sold it over a falling out they had between themselves.

8. "Bush has an asbestos asshole..."
He probably got a discount on the asbestos from Cheney. ;)

From CNN:

HOUSTON (Reuters) - A federal bankruptcy judge approved a $4.2 billion settlement between two subsidiaries of energy services company Halliburton that could end the companies' long-running liability over asbestos claims, according to court documents filed on Friday.

The court's approval, which was widely expected, paves the way for Halliburton's DII Industries and KBR, formerly known as Kellogg Brown & Root, to emerge from bankruptcy proceedings that were initiated late last year to address the asbestos litigation.

Most of the claims regarding exposure to asbestos and silica stem from Halliburton's acquisition of DII, formerly Dresser Industries, which the company bought in the 1990s when it was led by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney.

Guess I'll go out and buy a pint of Ben & Jerry's. What's your favorite flavor?

9. Retraction
I will not be buying Ben & Jerry's ice cream. They sold the company in 2000 to Unilever (owner of Slim-Fast), and now serve as "ambassadors". Wonder if they will remain in that post?

13. I get a pint of Ben & Jerry's free with my phone bill
I thought they most be OK it they are supporting Working Assets.

I just switched over and got my first phone bill ... and news letter,
and a chance to round up my bill to support groups who are trying to make sure that our votes count this time. I don't mean to sound like an advertisement but most phone companies don't offer deals on books like "Obliviously On He Sails: The Bush Administration in Rhyme" or
"The republican Sound Machine". I have a feeling that the conservatives at Slim Fast wouldn't want to have anything to do with Working Assets ... and yet they are owned by the same company???

16. pissed at SLIM-FAST for firing Whoopie after she spoke her mind? here's
the email address of the nice lady who tried to placate me after i wrote to them and told them what it think of their chilling message sent to "uppity" black women everywhere, saying "if you speak your mind about bush, you WILL lose your job."

Kathi Eckler
keckler@slimfast.com

here was her "soothing" response:

July 21, 2004

Thank you for contacting us to share your comments about our relationship with Ms.
Goldberg. We do read all e-mails and take them seriously. We also appreciate the opportunity to clarify our position.

Ms. Goldberg's remarks created a great deal of negative media and consumer attention and this affected Ms. Goldberg's ability to positively communicate our message of weight loss. Because of this, we decided to conclude the current advertising campaign. Slim Fast believes its decision in no way impacts Ms. Goldberg's freedom of speech, now or in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns.

Kathi Eckler
Consumer Support

------------------------

what Kathi fails to note is that the "negative media coverage" was initiated by the right-wing media machine, and SLIM-FAST is simply in lockstep with bushco. feel free to write to her and tell her exactly what you think of this tactic to silence black American women.

17. Please don't wasts your time writing to a computer inside Unilever.
There really is no point.

Next time you're going shopping take your letter and photocopy it and leave in on the shelves that Unilever products are sold on.

20. I got exactly the same response from Kathi...
and in my previous email to her I gave her links to the freerepublic site and asked her to read all the hate-filled posts and how they are gloating about their success.

No more Unilever products for me.
