Bonnie Raitt dedicates 'About to End' to Bush
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/movies/apmovies_story.asp?category=1402&slug=People%20Bonnie%20Raitt

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Winding up her summer tour across Europe, Bonnie Raitt drew thunderous applause at the Stockholm Jazz Festival for dedicating a classic to President George Bush.

"We're gonna sing this for George Bush because he's out of here, people!" Raitt crowed Tuesday night before she launched into the opening licks of "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)," a cover that was featured on her 1979 album, "The Glow."

... Raitt's comments resulted in a round of applause and even whistles from among the estimated 3,000 concertgoers at the Swedish capital's annual jazz event held on the banks of the downtown Skeppsholmen island.

10. Trouble in Customs
That's a hell of a thought. I want to go to Amsterdam but I've heard they can do body cavity searches when you come back to the US.

30. There are drug sniffing dogs
at Customs in the US and if they sit down next to you because you smell of something, say you just walked thru a coffee shop on your way to the airport, it's full cavity search time.

So I heard it's best to change your clothes and be very clean the day you come back.

14. I hear you...I have 3 Dixie Chics CD's...& I don't even like country music
But...to Amazon I go...can't let those RWers stage a successful boycott of someone who is just speaking her mind. (Hmmm...I always thought that free speech was something we valued in this country. You'd think that the party that feels so strongly about American values would welcome this...)

47. At least open "Fly" and listen to "Goodbye Earl" which sent
Rush and the RW into a tizzy a few years ago. You gotta love anybody that can piss that blowhard off so badly.

The comment in London wasn't their first controversy.

33. The popularity of country music is linked to the neocons
domination of our beloved nation. Think about it. About the same time it grew in popularity, the conservatives became so vocal. Maybe sublimal messages are in the songs. Maybe it is just sheer ignorance. I do think someone should study the links between country music and the increase of suicide. It is depressing music.

Dixie Chicks but also like all different kinds of music.

I already have all of Bonnie's Cd's but if they try to Dixie Chick her I will have to buy some again.

45. I have a dixie chicks CD given as a gift. I never listened to it until
they were brave and spoke out against *. Now I like the CD. It is more folk music and folk/pop than country. Country is crying in your beer cause you fell sorry for yourself music. Depressing and divisive, that is country music. (imho)

13. She's the daughter of musical star John Raitt
Raised as a Quaker, she's always been into social causes. She studied with serious blues men & blues women and learned to play excellent slide guitar. I remember a few fine shows in the 70's featuring her & Little Feat. Sets by each, then jamming.

She was well known to blues lovers but gained popular success as a song stylist. She's remained true to her roots--musical & political. Here's her site:

15. A sexy woman with a Strat...
...and she can play the thing, too. One of the best slide blues players out there, period. Learned from the legendary Sippie Wallace.

I remember seeing her in a small club called The Main Point in Philly years ago, before she broke out. She was drinking hard back then, and she was amazing.

Used to go there in my Villanova days. Saw Carlin there in the early 60s. Ah yes, I remember it well. Never caught Bonnie there, though.

16. The Bonnie Raitt Collection
is the best of her hand-picked blues tunes.

I especially like her duet with Sippi Wallace, "Women Be Wise" but the whole album is great. Includes her rendition of "Angel From Montgomery" with John Prine, who wrote dat song.

I haven't listened to her much since the 70's, so I though maybe I missed something?

Bonnie is one of the most rockin, bluesest women on the planet.

31. she was quickly escorted out of the country
her bags were packed for her by the country's security as rioters tore up her posters and tearfully demanded refunds. Skeppsholman spokesperson William Timmins said, "This is a FAMILY country- we don't go for that leftist SJUIPSNACK here," as his grip tightened on his sidearm.
