Iran responsible for terrorism in Iraq says minister
(Asharq al-Awsat) - Minister of Interior Falah al-Naqeeb accused Iran of being behind the terrorist operations in Iraq. He added "it is inevitable to admit that Iran has a major role in terrorist and sabotage operations in Iraq". He also said that what "is going on in Iraq, regardless of the political and religious cover, is being arranged by one party and the mastermind and strategy are the same". He concluded that "Iraq understands these conspiracies which are being woven against it and the Arab countries".
(London-based Asharq al-Awsat, a pro-Saudi independent paper, is issued daily.)

3. PBS had a special where they followed a photog. in
Iraq the other night, and during the part where the man got shot a crowd gathered and one man was saying frantically to the photog. that it was wahabists from syria and either palestine or pakistan (I forget) that were doing the car bombings, etc. I think this is interesting 'cause it is the first time I've heard an everyday iraqi get to voice their belief about who (plural) is responsible. I also think it is interesting because the Saudis are sunni wahabists, and the iranians are shia.

4. Huh? Did Bush tell him to say that? Seems it's always being blamed
on whoever Bush considers evil at the moment. Whatever helps his never-ending war agenda.

7. Good point. He wants to build up support against Iran and use it
to win the election. Iran will become more evil everyday. Maybe they will even say they have now discovered Iran gassed the Kurds not Saddam. That became the battle cry after the WMD's were not found. I read in UK paper that only 5000 of the alleged 300,000 mass graves have been found so far though. Might have to fill a few to make it look better.

5. Bush actually told Rumsfield to invade Iran, he just misunderstanded him.
So, it's all Rumsfield's fault. Bush remains ever flawless. How sweet it must be.

Iraqi unemployment rate reaches 70%
Ahmed Janabi

Wednesday 21 July 2004 - A study by the college of economics at Baghdad University has found that the unemployment rate in Iraq is 70%.

The study says the problem of high unemployment is going from bad to worse, with the security situation deterioriating and the reconstruction process faltering.

Long queues of Iraqis can be seen every morning outside the advertisers' offices, carrying their CVs and the $50 application fee.

the US companies and others there import workers. That must make the Iraqis feel real good. Maybe that's another reason that insurgents kill and kidnap foreign workers?
