Ronstadt May Return To Vegas Stage
Thanks to negotiations today (July 21) between the Recording Artists Coalition (RAC) and the prospective new owners of Las Vegas's Alladin Theater, expect to see RAC member Linda Ronstadt back at the venue this fall -- with filmmaker Michael Moore on backup vocals.

1. Cool! and good for her (and the new owners)
Meanwhile, her last audience there (wonder how many were really "fans"?) needs to GET A LIFE (and a BRAIN)!

18. There's something about this "riot" story
that has me rather perplexed. I hope someone can help me out here. According to mainstream press, an encore Linda has been doing throughout her tour caused BEDLAM to break loose. According to a REPORTER who was AT the concert, reading the account of "what happened" shocked her as she recalled no such thing. Now this is a CONCERT. That means there were more than a few eyewitnesses. How is it that we have heard NOTHING from anyone else in attendance? Knowing the song was on the playlist, is it possible disruptor were errrraaaa... PLANTED? ;-) :tinfoilhat: WHERE ARE THE ACCOUNTS from people who attended the event?
I just don't get this.

23. An article that I read in The Guardian said "a couple dozen" got upset
and stormed out of the venue. Some even tore down posters. The horrors!

They should have Whoopie make an appearance, maybe pay-per-view it
Or maybe comedy central could cover it - Daily Show?

I want to watch that show.

And to the un-American right who hate freedom of speech - fuck off.

8. makes you wonder if SLIM-FAST will rehire Whoopie Goldberg. perhaps not...
the rethugs know how important it is for them to silence black women's voices, threatening them with the loss of their jobs.

9. What about her fans that got jipped?
Most of her fans remained seated and wanted to hear the concert. They were denied. The casino should have let the concert continue in respect to the majority. The "conservative" rioters should have been spanked and put down for a nap.

11. I'm splitting the baby on this
Edited on Wed Jul-21-04 11:12 PM by rocknation
Apparently, Linda had some issues with the casino over the way her show was promoted. Whether they were legitimate or not, she shouldn't have taken it out on her paying customers. If she felt that strongly, she should have backed out of the gig and been willing to take her lumps legally.

I daresay that Linda's F9/11 endorsement would have gone over much better if she hadn't dissed the audience beforehand. But it's nice to know that both parties have a chance to wipe the slate clean.

14. This is a surprise
It sounds like they took Micheal Moore up on the offer on his website. If it comes off, I expect there will be a big crowd, and the casino will rake in the bucks. But it is nice to see them do the correct thing.

They probably got flooded with calls and emails from fans and liberals.

20. Bonnie Raitt says "George is out of here!"
Same story on Ronstadt notes that Bonnie Raitt dedicated her song, " "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)" to Bush at a concert in Sweden. Brought cheers from audience.

Ronstadt's Vegas Comeback?

Just days after getting booted from the Aladdin Hotel Casino for praising Moore as "patriot" and dedicating her encore song, "Desperado," to him, Ronstadt is already entertaining offers of a comeback.

On Wednesday, one of the prospective new owners of the Aladdin, Robert Earl, issued a statement of support for Ronstadt.
"We respect artists' creativity and support their rights to express themselves," Earl said. "We were very sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances of this past Saturday night and want to make it clear that Planet Hollywood has never, in our 13 year history, restricted any artists' right to free speech and we will continue with that policy once we take ownership.

"Upon the assumption of ownership, and with a new management team in place, we would like to offer the use of the Theatre of Performing Arts to Linda Ronstadt for a second concert and further to take Michael Moore up on his offer to join her on stage to introduce her and sing a song," Earl continued. The group Earl represents (a division of Planet Hollywood) expects to take control of the hotel as early as September.

21. You'd think the Repukes would learn...
Al Franken, Michael Moore, and now Linda Ronstadt. All one needs for their career to get a shot of adrenaline in it is for the right to criticize them. But hey, they're STUPID MORANS! We all know that.

22. Good for Her Career
This whole Hugabaloo is probably a good thing for her career. There is no such thing as bad publicity. Especially when you are a washed up 70's singer.

25. She's not washed up.
Her career peak was, indeed, in the 70's & 80's. She pointed this out when she said ClearChannel couldn't hurt her--they won't play her stuff, anyway. But she continues to make records for her fans; she managed to win 6 Grammies in the 90's.

The gig in Vegas was just one stop on her latest tour. Most of the venues were a bit better.

Ironically, the whole stupid episode will probably help both the owners of the Alladin AND Linda Ronstadt....
