Bush drops war drum for 20 puffs on peace pipe
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/07/21/1090089223027.html?oneclick=true

July 22, 2004

After launching two wars, President George Bush said he wanted to be a "peace president" and took swipes at his Democratic rivals for being lawyers and weak on defence.

With polls showing public support for the war in Iraq in decline, Mr Bush cast himself as a reluctant warrior and assured Americans they were "safer" as he campaigned in the battleground states of Iowa and Missouri against the Democrat candidate, John Kerry, and his running mate, former trial lawyer John Edwards.

"The enemy declared war on us," Mr Bush told a re-election rally in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday. "Nobody wants to be the war president. I want to be the peace president ... The next four years will be peaceful years," said Mr Bush, who used the words "peace" or "peaceful" 20 times.

<snip>

"For a while we were marching to war. Now we're marching to peace. ... America is a safer place. Four more years and America will be safer and the world will be more peaceful," he said. But a few hours later, in St Charles, Missouri, Mr Bush warned "the world will drift towards tragedy" if America shows "weakness".

1. "The enemy declared war on us"?????
And just what were you snorting when this happened, George? Because it never occurred in our reality. Oh, you mean the terroristss? Hasn't it gotten through your thick skull that none of the hijackers were Iraqi, and that there were no ties between Saddam and al Qaeda? Terrorism is a tactic, not a country.

But don't worry. Your base (the haves and have mores) will support you no matter what stupid things you say.

3. Seems to me we are back where we started. But for the dead.
The anti-war people turned out right, none of the spy people said a thing about we should go to war and Howard, Blair and Bush are trying to blame it on anyone but them selfs. So what else is new, as they say. Never give one man power and let a lot of wimps say he is right and go along. Our founding fathers knew this and that is why it was put on paper for us. We are to run the leaders not they to rule us.

5. When he said, "The enemy declared war on us," translate that
"The enemy (those who won't vote for me) declared war on us (this administration)."

Everything for W is always in terms of "me" (as in "L'Etat, C'est moi" - Napoleon).

Not long ago he was bragging about being the "War President."

It may be his biggest flip-flop yet!

6. "L'Etat, C'est moi"--wasn't that Louis XIV?
Whoever said it, it's apporpriate for BushCo.

10. It's been attributed to both, but I think you're right - Louis XIV

But you can see why people get confused about that from articles like this (a good one, BTW):

Bush's Napoleonic Complex: The Telltale Signs of World Empire

But as you say, either way, the shoe fits perfectly on Shrubya's foot (and mouth)!

Edited to correct my spelling

19. Isn't that the scariest picture
of W, that you've ever seen ?

I'm sorry, but someone who supposedly likes to ride 17 miles in the Texas heat on his bike, does not look like that just from giving a speech.

21. hahaha! : "drift towards tragedy" hahahahaha! O God.
How Churchillian. Hahahahaha.
"drift towards tradgedy"....Churchill would choke on 95% of the words that this moron strings together. Hahahahaha!!!
It hurts to read some of his lines. It's not just illiterate...it's
unfathomable how anyone with more than a 8th grade education could come up with this shit. Jethro Bodine as president would not be as embarrassing.
