Coors and Molson Announce Plans to Merge
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Published: July 22, 2004

Filed at 1:00 p.m. ET

DENVER (AP) -- Adolph Coors Co., the nation's third-biggest brewer, and Canada's Molson Inc. announced plans to merge Thursday in a deal that would create a North American giant to compete against the world's beermaking titans.

The new company will have a 15-member board, including five nominated by the Molson family board members, five by Coors family board members and three elected by non-voting shareholders. Kiely and Daniel J. O'Neil, the Molson CEO who will be vice chairman of the combined company, will also be directors.

John Molson founded the company that bears his name in 1786. Coors was established in 1873 by Adolph Coors and Jacob Schueler. The voting stock in each is still controlled by descendants of the founders, who include Peter H. Coors.

Don't tell me I have to stop drinking Molson as well!! I never liked Coors, but Molson was always a good fallback when I can't get good homebrew or microbrewed beers.

2. No more Molson for me.
EVER. I'm boycotting these lily-livered, spineless traitors.

Further proof that money trumps everything else, including years and years of patriotic advertising campaigns connecting Molson with the very idea of Canada. Apparently that doesn't mean much when $$$ comes calling.

5. No more Molson Canadian for us.
Because we will not buy a Coors product. Freaking scabs. Will Molson stay union?
