1. 905 dead US soldiers
and all for nothing. Over 1000 soldiers in all, dead, for nothing.
Thousands more wounded, for nothing.
tens of thousands of civilians dead
for nothing
thousands of soldiers and civilians wounded
for nothing.
all of it
for nothing.
In the meantime, the wealthy 1% continue to live comfortable lives, and wallow in the lucratively profitable murders of the Bush administration.
God damn them all.

4. Whether it's for nothing remains to be seen
A stable, quasi-democratic Iraq would be a good thing. Certainly nobody mourns the fall of the Saddam regime.

5. Just like South Vietnam
Keep dreaming. Bush's war was a folly.

6. If your kid was the one killed over there
or you had a loved one standing over there, you might think differently. Until then, it's an abstract issue to you. Thats pretty much what it boils down to.
Bring the Troops Home Now.

20. You are 100% correct!
No one understands the finality of death until it hits home. It's easy to be dispassionate when you or someone you love is not at risk.

8. I am sure some people do mourn the fall of his regime
Saddam himself, certainly does, and there is surely a small, but not trivial percentage of Iraqis who didn't mind life under Saddam. By now, lots more would say life wasn't any worse under him than it is under the occupation. If Allawi is the strongman (i.e. murderer) that reports indicate he may be, most Iraqis will probably end up wondering why they went through all this grief to trade Saddam for Allawi.

I just think your generalization is a little strong. Time will tell how it all works out, once the U.S. forces leave.

12. I can think of tens of thousands of inocent Iraqi's that do.
The carpet bomb and cluster bomb victims. Not to mention those that the depleted uranium will poison for years to come both here and there.

I learned a long time ago to leave the hornet's nest alone if it isn't hurting you.

10. War wasn't necessary
If we'd let the inspectors finish their work, we wouldn't have needed to go to war to pressure Saddam out, bring traditional peacekeepers in and rebuild the country with international participation and cooperation. These kids are dying because George Bush was gung ho for his war.

It is a dubious honour to have such a distinguished guest here, however.

15. What could possibly be good about it?
A bogus war based on lies -- would you send your kid into that?

16. Are you offering odds on a "stable, quasi-democratic Iraq?"
And if so, when? Tomorrow? Next year? 2010?

Are you offering odds on how many soldiers die until a
"stable, quasi-democratic Iraq" appears?

I'll offer 1000 to one you don't have two sons ages 18 and 16.

Go back to freeperville, where fantasy is celebrated.

Before you go, could you send me two applications to the Texas
Air National Guard?

19. Even with the US there they cant make it stable or democratic
when they leave another US supported dictator will just be the next time.

All that will have been achieved is a thousand dead US and 20 thousand dead iraqis.

hooray for democracy.

21. A stable, quasi-democratic society by force of the will never works -
History has repeatedly demonstrated this fact.

24. This is a Quasi-stupid-ass post
"Certainly nobody mourns the fall of the Saddam regime"

Certainly, you are mourning for the 905 dead US soldiers, right?

Or were their lives worth it to you?

25. Ummmmmmm
Welcome to DU. There are no Saddam apologists here. Neither are there any supporters of the current administrations policies. Removing Saddam was a distraction from the 9-11 or the economy or tax cuts for the wealthy or all three.
The dead members of the Armed Forces have died in vain. Saddam was not a threat to our national security. Whatever threat he did present could have been dealt with differently.
Therefore, I respectively disagree with your comment.........

11. These numbers need to be posted EVERYWHERE!
There are two men in my hometown that have created a large sign alongside a major road displaying the number of killed or wounded soldiers. I really do not know if enough people are aware of the actual numbers, and would encourage people to do a similar thing. I'm starting right after I finish this.

13. Why? You think they'll do any good?
Everybody knows.
Everybody knows.
That's how it goes.
Everybody knows.

The worst cynicisms of any era aren't hidden, needing to be exposed. They are out in the open for all to see. Everybody knows. And nobody gives a damn. Straight up. Your mission of exposure is for shit.

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows

18. Those flowers they are throwing are fatal....
I wish they would give Wolfowitz a permanent position there...in fact when Kerry wins I think he should send Bush, Cheney and Wolfie over there without bodyguards and let them show the average americans how "safe" it really is....

Then they say, "Oh, Iraq is out of the headlines". Yeah because the fucking media made it that way.

23. I sure as hell do
Yesterday it was 901 dead, today it's 905 without a whisper of how, let alone why. To quote another DUer's discarded sig line "Say,...what's going on here?"

26. The 9/11 report reminds the citizens about all those
bad "towel heads" out there who intend to "put them in harms way". That's about all the good that report will do. These soldiers died "protecting our freedoms". Chimp got his way on that one.
