Bush speaks to Urban League convention before heading for down-time in Texas

WHITE HOUSE A week after spurning the N-Double-A-C-P, President Bush is speaking today to a different civil rights group -- the Urban League.

The president's addressing the league's annual convention in Detroit before heading to some down-time at his Texas ranch.

The White House cited scheduling conflicts and "harsh" political rhetoric from the N-Double-A-C-P leadership as Bush's reason for declining to speak to that group's convention in Philadelphia last week.

In Detroit, Bush's foe, John Kerry, spoke to the Urban League yesterday -- and got a warm reception for promises to create jobs, improve public education and address gaps in the health care system.

5. I had a thought while driving in to work today about the comments from
Jesse Helms or Strom or whoever about Bill Clinton and saying he better not visit in that state or else.

We are obviously the better people. I haven't heard anyone in Detroit say that about Bush, and he is pretty well despised in the city and about half of the suburbs.

6. Down time?
I thought he wasn't taking any more vacation days before the election. What happened to that? Is it like those weekly speeches he announced he would be giving?

I'm worried that his numbers will go up if he goes into hiding. We need to hear those great speeches! We need * to keep defeating *.

10. Even though the winds are from the north ...
... there's an unmistakable stench coming from about 16 miles to the south of me. Yes, DimSon slithered into Detroit, it seems. I wonder how much the cash-strapped city will have to spend scrubbing away his slimetrail.
