Polls: Kerry Leads in Pennsylvania
WASHINGTON - Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) has a 10-point lead over President Bush (news - web sites) in Pennsylvania, a poll released Friday said, and a slight lead in Oregon.

Two new Florida polls found the race deadlocked in a three-way race, suggesting that independent Ralph Nader (news - web sites) again could play a pivotal role in the essential swing state of 2000. Bush won the disputed Florida election by a margin of a few hundred votes, and Democrats blamed Nader, who had more than 97,000 votes, for tipping the balance in the state and awarding Bush the presidency.

In Pennsylvania, a key swing state won by Democrat Al Gore (news - web sites) in 2000, Kerry was up over Bush by 48 percent to 38 percent, while Nader was at 5 percent, in a state poll conducted by the Los Angeles Times.

In Oregon, Kerry led Bush 50 percent to 42 percent, while Nader had 4 percent, according to a poll by the American Research Group. Gore narrowly won Oregon in 2000.

9. Tied in Ohio
Are you saying the Ohio poll is off or were wondering what the situation was there? Funny how the 2 side by side states were so different in 2000.

17. There's about a four point swing, which I guess
means the difference between an eight-point lead and a tie race.

Bush is going to lose Ohio because Repubs there won't turn out like Dems will.

:toast: Welcome to DU!

4. 8 % is a "slight lead" in Oregon? Not to mention that Nader probably
isn't going to make the ballot there the way things look now, so why include him in the poll?

7. I love how they say an 8-point lead is small
:wtf:

BTW, I live in PA and am thrilled to see that a number of recent polls have Kerry pulling out to a nice lead. This was a state Gore won by less than 5 percent.

20. Yeah, I expected something within the MOE when I first read that.
Two points is a "slight lead." Eight points is technically, in polling terms, referred to as "a big-ass lead."

Whew. It was getting a little embarrassing there for awhile when the early polls showed Bush tied with Kerry in Oregon.

I have a feeling Multnomah County (Portland) will turn out (well, mail in our ballots, as we do it here) en masse as we've never done before to get this piece of crap out of our White House. We'll swamp the rural parts of the state. Heh heh.

What a riot. The chimp has been in Pa more times than the entire male popualtion of the world that has been in madonna. He's been here at least once a week for the past three years. Sayonnara, chimpy.

He can visit PA 50 more times, but his sugar-coated shit still stinks. Man, if this is true, this the best poll I've seen yet.

16. This starts making sense. Even in this backwater state, Bush is a bum.
I couldn't believe the recent reports that Shrubby had moved to a tie in PA. The Alabama part of the state is pretty stupid and bible beltish. But even here, most people can tell the difference between moral and immoral behavior.

My mother-in-law, a life-long Republican 85 years old, savy and sharp as a tack came to detest Bush 2 years ago after reading about his comments on capital punishment--especially when he dissed that lady who appealed to him for clemency.

Bush is a f*cking bum, and PA knows it.

Finally Pennsylvania voters are beginning to recognize authenticity when they see it.

21. The hatred for Bush is intense in Philly.
I have at least 5 friends who are going to vote for the first time this year, people who never cared at all about politics that just hate the Chimp. It's starting to look like Bush is going to get killed in this election and that is one scary thought. You just know these guys aren't going to give up power that easy.

23. There are some hardcore repukes here in the PA suburbs
In the suburbs around Pittsburgh I see plenty of those obnoxious W '04 bumper stickers. I'm assuming it's the 'base' hardcore supporters who are trying desperately to hang on to Chimp.

Glad to see that the polling statewide is indicating a nice lead. I'm trying to do my part here by spreading the word and putting up anti-Bush and Kerry signs where I can.

24. Good news
But I'll wait and see if the Keystone poll reflects the same lead. If support for * fades, I don't expect to see him much in PA. I'm not sure how that will affect Specter. He should get support from Philly, his base. The rest of PA is probably less enthusiastic about this "moderate" Republican. Will be interesting what happens if the conservative elements stay home in November.

26. These factors no doubt contribute to that lead
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 01:31 PM by Penndems
1. Philadephia (the GOP vote in Montco, Delco, Chester, Bucks, etc., may be swinging his way, too).

2. Pittsburgh.

3. It's the home of Teresa Heinz Kerry.

4. Ed Rendell.

5. Union vote.

**********************************************************************
Why Junior ever thought Pennsylvania would go his way is beyond my comprehension. How he could have the unmitigated gall to campaign there, especially after Bob Zoellick (his U.S. Trade Representative- and a real jerk, BTW) yanked the steel tarriffs, just boggles the mind.

(on edit: typo)
