The state Republican Party opened a two-day convention Friday in Keizer with an unusual notice to the news media: Don't come.

But nothing underhanded is afoot, said party spokeswoman Dawn Phillips.

She said the day largely was for "internal party business" and for dispensing campaign advice to candidates and party workers.

"There's there are some things we're communicating with grass roots delegates, training sessions and election strategy, and we'd just prefer not to share it with the Democrats and others," she said.
