Trouble ahead for Bush from 9/11 panel
Members of the commission investigating the September 11 terror attacks have injected a potentially unsettling element into President George Bush's re-election campaign by deciding not to disband.
Although the bipartisan commission scrupulously avoided apportioning blame to either the Clinton or Bush administrations, the decision ensures that 9/11 and Iraq will remain at the forefront of the election campaign.

The commission's 10 members said they planned to team up in pairs - one Democrat and one Republican - to campaign throughout the US for the adoption of their 41 recommendations to make the country safer.

"All 10 of us have decided to do everything we can, whether it's testimony or lobbying or speaking or whatever's necessary, to let the American people know about these recommendations - know how important they are, our belief that they can save lives," Thomas Kean, the commission's chair, told reporters on Thursday.

1. I wish them luck, but I'm not optimistic
They will have to overcome major institutional resistence from Congress and the paper pushing bureaucrats in the affected agencies. Bureaucrats don't like change. I expect little or nothing to change.

2. There you go Kerry/Edwards a perfect opening to show leadership
Press conference stating that John Edwards will head a commission starting 11/3/04 to enact these 41 recommendations and also cross-reference the bipartisan Hart-Rudman report that has gathered dust since it was delivered to cheney in Feb 2001.

8. Exactly. In essence, this is a Liberal policy being pushed by
the commission. It smacks right to the core values of a strong Liberal Govt. The Sheeple will demand it. So long as Kerry and Edwards push it to the hilt, The Sheeple can be convinced their safer with the plan aka Kerry, thus beat Bush. Only wild card is if Bush himself embraces it with lies or what ever.

14. They already did
“I will convene an Emergency Security Summit that brings together leading Democratic and Republican members of Congress, leaders of the agencies that play a vital role in our fight against terrorism and the 9/11 Commissioners. We will assess what we have achieved and what more is to be done. And then we will do it."

Of course, people around here freaked out and called them PNAC warmongers.

16. quick action or slow deliberation?
with the ink barely dry - the differences in approach was apparant

bush* said he would "study" the report....

Hassert said there would be careful deliberation....

Kerry said if elected and 9-11 recommendations were not in place - he would make this a priority.....

Others are calling for Congress to have an emergency session to work on the recommendations......

ok - so here's the dilemma

The "Patriot Act" was cobbled together, rushed through Congress, signed and enacted -- then we find there are serious conflicts between 'security' and 'liberty'

The resolution regarding IRAQ was also rushed, shoved and pushed through Congress -- then we find that the majority of info was erroneous

Regarding the 9-11 commission's recommendations -- should we be 'rushing' to enact them or should they be studied over a reasonable length of time?

The question may be moot - as election-madness is here. If Congress does go into an emergency session, I expect that not much but alot of hot air and campaign fodder will be generated.

just as you look to see who's promoted, who's fired.

Who benefitted, who was punished.

and once again- "It was not immediately clear when
the investigation was completed."-On the SEC

The 1st time being P Zelikow on CSPAN saying
there was nothing to the Odigo Warning to Israel
of WTC Attack.

Diamandis VP of sales and marketing, confirmed
that
workers in Odigo's R&D and int'l sales
office
in Israel recieved a warning from another
Odigo user approximately 2 hours prior
to the first attack.

"It was not immediately clear when the investigation
was completed." IMHO this staement's going to be used
alot
to describe this report.

6. That's the one I was talking about.. The intelligence
Those CIA people will NOT protect Bush.. that's why the report was thought to be damaging to him, and was being withheld until after the election..

Why owuld they print the report is it's half done?? Is there more to come, or did they just drop the rest of it??

17. It was a deal
The Dems on the SSCI wanted to investigate,

• whether public statements, reports, and testimony regarding Iraq by U.S. Government officials made between the Gulf War period and the commencement of Operation Iraqi Freedom were substantiated by intelligence information (phase II);
• the postwar findings about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and weapons programs (phase II)
and links to terrorism and how they compare with prewar assessments

and in order to do that, they reached an agreement to split it into two phases, the second of which to be released after the election.

I know becasue I made the same mistake yesterday and had to sit quietly and figure it out.

It's just that the 9/11 report seems incomplete and unsatisfying in the extreme. So very much is left out it just about makes me cry.

10. They need to be paired up with any one of the right wing Repub Congress
or Senate vacationers on TV starting with Hastert, DeLay, and Frist. Those tax paid radical leaders can tell the Commissioners in front of the country why there won't be any follow through until they are good and ready about a decade from now. They especially can't do anythig before October. Might impede the surprise.

which is exatly what they did with all the information clinton and richard clarke gave them........

they decided it wasn't important then...they had their own agenda then and now.....

they are sitting on their duffs again..and where is bush vacationing on the ranch again.....

no sense of urgency now or then......

20. Why waste more money. They are a sham, so why bother?
I wonder if chief PNACer and recently quit defense advisor Dov Zakheim was questioned.
This guy helped author the PNAC documents and he also was the CEO of the company who designed the computer apparatus that allows the controls of up to 5 jets to be simultaneously overtaken from the ground in the event of a hijacking.

Do you suppose his equipment was used on 9-11 to take the planes over?

This would help to explain why our government was waiting for the new Pearl Harbor to be completed.

I've never heard of any type of investigation into this. Makes more sense than the BS story of completely untrained pilots executing those highly technical moves.

Thank God for Karen Britweiser.

And Joe Vialls:
light intensity at least 50% less.
Hard science and the use of basic astronomical
tables
have thus defeated the 9-11
Commission's
trump disinformation,

Film of Dulles released on Eve of Report a fake.

29. Evil propaganda, as opposed to Good Prop?
Instead of villifying a source or person,
why don't you try offering a better source.

Like this. Hey, personI'mvillifyingrightnow, Here's
a link, say Ha'aretz, UPI, NYT, WP, Asia Times, WSWS
Josh Marshall, Molly Ivins, Sy Hersh, Harper's, ...

Here's what I think,....

And then we go from there. That way we can converse.

To justify pre-emptive military actions, including the
use
of nuclear weapons in conventional war theaters
(approved
by the Senate in late 2003),  the National
Security
Doctrine requires the "fabrication" of a terrorist threat, --ie.
"an outside enemy." It also needs to link these terrorist threats
to "State sponsorship" by the so-called "rogue states."
