US tank crash kills Iraqis (hit & run manslaughter involving a bus)
Wedding party massacres: not just for the wedding parties themselves anymore..

US tank crash kills Iraqis
Saturday 24 July 2004

Nine Iraqi civilians have been killed after a US tank crashed into their bus, amid conflicting versions of the incident.

A passenger on the bus told Associated Press Television News (APTN) that the tank crashed into a bus in Tarmiyah, 50km north of Baghdad, late on Thursday, as they returned from a wedding.

"An American armoured vehicle hit them and left," he said, adding 12 people from the same family had been in the bus.

Iraqi police Captain Adnan Salih also said another 18 were injured as they were returning from a wedding party. He said the casualties included four men, four women and a child.

APTN footage showed the twisted wreckage of a minibus and several bodies of accident victims covered by blankets. A small child's orange dress was found amid the wreckage and pools of blood covered the road.

3. Maybe in Iraq also!
Women and Children coming back from a wedding? Hard to believe that the U.S. makes the same mistakes over and over.

We're creating more terrorist everyday.

6. Japanese man pleads guilty in wreck that killed Marine
Accepting responsibility and the consequences of one's actions is, unfortunately, not an American trait. Former Congressman Janklaw (sp) comes to mind.

11. Really?
Did the soldier who ran over the little South Korea girl with a tank end up behind bars?

4. But we are bring them freedom , if they can live through it.
If they can't I guess it will be because they do not want it.

5. Because this is styled as an accident
Survivors or the estates of the decedents should file claims against the US by filing them with the US Armed Forces in Iraq. The press should be there when they are filed so that they don't get "lost" in the transmission to the US Foreign Claims Commission for that country.

I think a lot of the claims in Iraq for accidental death, injury and property damage are being bought off with inadequate solatia payments. Anyone grieved with accidental injuries by US armed forces overseas should get both. A person trying to file a claim with the local headquarters might find themselves a target of insurgents so the risk may outweigh the possible compensation.

These claims fall under the provisions of the Foreign Claims Act.

8. kick for the early afternoon crowd
:kick:

This remains strange to me. If done in Huntsville, Alabama, somewhere in rural Montana, or downtown Seattle, hit and run manslaughter resulting in so many dead and wounded is a very serious crime. They don't hand out medals, they don't throw a parade, the perps aren't generally lumped into the "Brave Heroes" catagory before and after--they are called criminals and go to prison. I give 5,000:0 odds that says not a fucking thing is done to punish such a crime--it is by far not alone in the catagory--, aside from the somewhat weaker odds there are that the resistance may one day come across the offenders sometime later and bring them to justice.

On a completely different note, I perversely applaud the thoroughness that is applied to busting up wedding parties.

10. I'm sure this was only an "accident"...
the soldiers in the armored vehicle didn't mean to slam into a bus and kill nine innocent people, nor did they intend to run from the scene of the atrocity.

Iraq's benevolent liberators are, naturally, innocent of any crime.
