Lawmakers to break recess for 9/11 hearings

MSNBC is reporting that they will break their vacations to convene. funny, i just submitted a LTTE to the local paper demanding a return.

WASHINGTON - Reacting to the Sept. 11 commission’s call for urgent intelligence reforms, key lawmakers announced Friday that the Senate would interrupt its August recess for hearings focused on immediate legislative proposals.

Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, chairwoman of the Governmental Affairs Committee, and Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., whom the Senate leadership designated to head Congress’ action on the commission’s recommendations, told reporters that the goal was to report legislation to the full Senate by Oct. 1.

“Because of the urgency of this task, we will begin work right away, and we will hold the first hearing the first week in August,” Collins said. “So no longer will it be a sleepy quiet August around here.”

It's about 2:30 minutes into it. Shields makes a comment about how CongressCritters have wasted their time on flag-burning and gay marriage.

There were 50 million hits on the website for the report, lots of interested people out there. CongressCritters would be absolute idiots to ignore this and recess. IF there were an attack during recess or even after there would be a HUGE uproar and they'd all be hitting the unemployment line.
