Former warlord bids for Afghan presidency (Guardian)

The Guardian is reporting that General Abdul Rashid Dostum is challenging US supported (by DynCorp) Hamid Karzai in October's presidential election.

I love how they used "former warlord"-it brings to mind the use of "ex-Nazi". Btw, opium crops reached record levels this year in Afghanistan.

3. And Moqtada al Sadr

will most probably run for leader of Iraq, and as a Shiite he has a good chance! Iraq's appointed PM, Iyad Allawi, will definitely try to "stop" al Sadr before the election. Very interesting times ahead!

4. There is absolutely no comparison..

on any level, between Sayyid Muqtada asSadr and Rashid Dostum. Ok, so both have cool beards (when Dostum has one), but even then they're completely different--Sadr going with the "bushy blackness" look, Dostum with the "pimp daddy/shoot your ass up and run for office because I can" short silver & brown hair/beard combo. He actually kind of looks like Saddam without the beard (and in typical tendencies), though Tajiks(/Iranians) & Arabs have many differences in appearance most times in general.
