Iraq's embattled premier yet to show results after a month in office

By HAMZA HENDAWI
Associated Press Writer
RAMADI, Iraq (AP) In the month since becoming interim prime minister, Iyad Allawi has armed himself with tough new powers and spoken of restoring the death penalty. He has also raised the possibility of an amnesty for insurgents to help stem violence tearing the fabric of this Arab nation.

Many Iraqis, however, dismiss Allawi's plans as talk but no action. In turbulent cities like Ramadi and nearby Fallujah hotbeds of anti-U.S. resistance the Iraqi leader must win over residents to ensure his political survival.

But recent events in the two Sunni cities don't bode well for Allawi, a Shiite.

2. Screw Alawi!
He is a former thug of Saddam's secret police, and ex-CIA terrorist. The only thing Alawi has done is show his penchant for executing prisoners in cold blood.

Alawi is the de facto mayor of Baghdad, and nothing else. Like Karzai in Afghanistan, Alawi exists by virtue of American guns behind him. Alawi has no intentions of allowing free and democratic elections in Iraq.

This is one guy that won't be missed when he gets his just deserts.

Screw Alawi!
