Ill. Sen. Hears of Nephew's Death in Iraq
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A state senator learned his nephew had been killed in Iraq as the Illinois Senate debated death benefits for military personnel during Saturday's special budget session.

Republican Sen. Dave Sullivan was listening to the discussion on the Senate floor when he was told his 22-year-old nephew, Marine Lance Cpl. Vincent Sullivan, was killed Friday while serving his second tour of duty in Iraq, according to Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson.

3. I wonder
Did the nephew's death make the Republican Senator's heart fill with wisdom? Did it give him a new understanding about the wrongness of war and particularly about the WRONGNESS OF THE WAR IN IRAQ?

Will the nephew's death give courage to the Republican Senator to stand up to George W. Bush and tell him in his face, or from the floor of the Illinois Senate that his nephew died because of a bogus case for war?

Will the nephew's war convert the Senator and if the Senator's heart is converted, will he use it to turn other Republican's away from Bush's demented idea of the need for the very real occupation of Iraq!

Bush ought to hang his head in shame!

5. Dit it hit home?????
Attended the final funeral services of Cpl Jeffery D. Lawrence,U.S.M.C. 2000 - 2004. Iraq 2004. His death from a roadside bomb in Fuljiah, Irag (sp) Jul 6, 2004 and the birth of his first born child on July 9th, is only tragic but opens this Administration up to the light.

The religious church service opened up for those that wanted to speak and it reflected both those that were angered by what the officials in DC had done, not only to this family but to the Nation and by those religious self-righteous "my faith is the only faith," and their attacts against the Muslim faith was an eyeopener to all those that attented. It was disheartening to view the death of this beautiful young man and the affect on his family and friends but also the hypocrisy of those that will use this war to enhance their personal religious bent. I loved this young man and am saddened that his patriotism and love of country was used by an unscrupulous President and his administration and those that think their religion is the only religion.

10. Expect freeper push...
...on this story.

Moore pointed out that only one member of congress had *children* there. This is an effort to show and promote that some members have distant family, if *not* children, in Iraq, and to discredit those who claimed (wrongly) that congress members have no family in Iraq.

12. For what it's worth
and with no intention to belittle the death of Lance Cpl. Vincent Sullivan - this was the nephew of an Illinois state Senator, not a U.S. Senator.

I'm pretty sure that Michael Moore was citing the relationships of U.S. Congress members.

I would imagine, but have no statistics, that at the more local level of politics like this is, there would be more people with some relationship with someone serving in the military.

A loss of life is a loss of life. May he rest in peace and his family and friends find comfort in their grief.

20. Why? Can't they READ!!!
As stated above, the senator is in the state senate of Illinois, not the US House or US Senate.

You have TWICE tried to advance an outright lie. Why is that?
