Democrats feel victory is at hand; Republicans call it overconfidence
http://www.nola.com/national/t-p/index.ssf?/base/news-0/109083225786680.xml

"Everybody knows it's going to be tight, . . . but I think the odds are high -- 60-40 -- that Kerry will prevail," said Convention Permanent Chairman Bill Richardson, governor of New Mexico. "We realize there is a lot of anti-Bush sentiment. It's out there and you take advantage of it."

" The Democrats' cockiness is evident to independent observers and could be their downfall."

this cockiness scare anyone else?

4. That's it right there
I'd rather feel exhausted and happy on November 3 that the margin of victory was such a landslide than get complacent and see the election still within stealing distance of Lil George and his corrupt cronies.

Sweep these crooks out of office like the river through the Augean stables.

6. Right on! Confidence is not cockiness and it can lead to clearer
thinking and energy. I doubt if any of us are going to get complacent knowing what *co is capable of. Confidence sure beats an air of defeat. :dem:

18. and the Chimp and his flying monkeys are worried indeed.
Since winning is only everything to them, I give them the same respect i would a wounded rattlesnake. Know this, when push comes to shove, they NEVER rise above temptation to cheat. NEVER.

5. hahahahahaha. the rethugs who can see what's happening are scared shitless
and the ones who are deluded enough to believe the spin and hype are out of touch with reality. to energize their base, they'll need to start screaming "hey, we're losing here!" at some point. just watch.

7. Agreed - rethugs are scared
"But the Republicans had strategists in town, tucked away at a nearby office tower dubbed a war room. They focused on painting Kerry as a liberal.

Said Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie: "We can't allow baseless charges to go unanswered."

Hey, lobbyist Ed Gillespie (and Marc Racicot), what's your opinion on your former employer Enron? Let's talk because there are a lot of unanswered questions on the subject.

I'm liberal, and proud of it, BTW! You can paint in BOLD colors.

Not.

9. We are confident, not cocky
There's a big difference. Thinking you have a good chance of winning doesn't make you cocky. Besides, I'm certain Kerry and Edwards will never assume they have it won. They will work as hard as they can until election day, count on it. And so must we.

10. Good to be confident -- but BE READY
Bush and the thugs who run this country as a gangster state will NOT relinquish power. Not EVER.

Between now and the election, there will be a manufactured crisis that "requires" the cancellation of the election. Or there will be a "mishap" involving a key Democratic leader. Or a law will be passed that will prevent anyone who voted Democratic in 2000 from voting that way again in 2004 - don't discount any possibility; SOMETHING will happen.

When whatever it is does happen, we should be ready to take to the streets, to take to the air, to take it to the immediate physical space of our enemies. If the revolution is not permitted by law, then it must be effected by force. Be ready.

11. I wish I had this confidence
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 03:12 PM by DaveFL99
All the polls I see are neck and neck and it seems like The Shrub is using Churches to maximize his turnout.

Then there's the impact that his miraculously capturing Osama just before the election is likely to have. Oh, and if Ashcroft isn't on television showing us the details of a terrorist ring he busted sometime in October I'll eat my shorts (I'll stop buy the local porn shop and get some edible ones just in case but I doubt I'll need 'em).

You guys may be overconfident but I'm still sweating bullets here.

16. I'm not overconfident
but keep in mind close polls are good for Kerry, because undecideds go overwhelmingly for the challenger.

13. No Diebold and a crroked Supreme Court and some ruthless lying monsters
who would happily steal our votes or stuff full with phony double-votes.

THAT scares me far more than attitude.

14. Bush and Cheney are the arrogant smart-alecky team lately
I was amazed to watch how Bush was grinning and smirking throughout his speech last Friday about terrorism. He was brimming with happiness in total contrast with the serious subject of his speech. Bush & Co seem to be the ones with overconfidence this past week after orchestrating the right wing smear of Joe Wilson, leaking the Sandy Berger matter and getting a pass from the 911 commission.

15. Many Dems ARE Overconfident Right Now
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 03:41 PM by AndyTiedye
We are a little bit ahead finally, and suddenly everyone says Bush* is toast.
I wish it were so, but it won't be nearly that easy.

We are not as far ahead as we need to be.

We've just gotten a bit of a boost from F/911, and maybe we will get a little more
from the Convention, if the media actually gives our people any coverage without
constantly breaking away to talk to anti-abortion protestors or picketing cops.

After that we have a long slog to the election, during which time we will be outspent
at least 2-1. September brings the Repub convention, with them all wrapping themselves
in the flag and the ashes of the WTC. The media will be fawning all over them. They will
shamelessly capitalize on 9/11, of course, and the media will produce the whole thing
for maximum effect. It is also in September when a lot more people are watching TV.
The networks will turn it into a Bush* love-fest, and give their candidate a big boost in the polls.

The idea of 70% of the undecideds going to the challenger assumes a relatively unbiased
media, which no longer exists in this country.
Most voters who are still undecided by the end of the Democratic convention are probably
going to vote for Bush* unless we can find some way to convince them to do otherwise.

17. I disagree with you on the undecideds
If people aren't sold on Bush by now, they aren't going to be. However, it's a long way till November.
