'Experts' among looters of national treasures
(Al-Nahdhah) - The Ministry of Culture would form a symposium next month attended by different media outlets to explain the motives behind the looting of the Iraqi museum after the fall of the former regime. Personnel who were suspected in giving aid to the looters would attend the symposium. Looting the country's museum and antiquities was premeditated before the war and before the fall of the regime. Experts and those interested in Iraqi antiquities took part because the most valuable objects were selected to be taken in the looting.
(Al-Nahdhah is a daily newspaper issued by Adnan al-Pachachi, GC member and head of Independent Democrats Movement.)

3. motives
Well, I figure the Black Obelisk was thieved away to Jerusalem for some extremist temple or something. Tho it could just as easily be sitting under the Vatican with many other antiquities.

4. I guess all those art historians who went to Bush begging him to
protect these irreplaceable antiquities knew that he (a pea brain) and his charming Sec of Defense (an even bigger pea brain who decided there will always be some looting, inferring that the same vase was being shown over and over) would not protect these historical artifacts.

5. I wonder if any of the Iraqi antiquities could be found at
George Herbert Walker Bush's home?

6. GHWB might want it as a trophy, but not as Art.
The philanthropy of the rich has nourished the arts in Houston. They've helped establish museums and performance halls--plus the the symphony, opera & ballet who use them. And they've patronized artists. Have some of the contributions come from rich ladies more interested in socializing than art? Yes. But we've also had true lovers of the arts--Miss Ima Hogg & the De Menils stand out.

I've witnessed the art patrons of Houston in action--from attending arts events myself & reading the society column. I can't recall any member of the Bush family ever expressing an interest in anything related to the arts.

7. LONG ago, I stated just this....that it was all pre-meditated and
those in the know and $$$$ got it out before the bombs hit. They always protect things that make them MORE elitist and exclusionary.
