Satanism Linked to Priest's Murder in Chilean Cathedral

Authorities identified the assailant as Rodrigo Orias Gallardo, 25. Orias, who dressed in black, was armed with a knife, and wounded himself after attacking the priest, authorities said. Police said the assailant was not mentally disturbed or under the influence of drugs.

"It has been a terrible and unexpected tragedy," Father Bernardino Zanella, the vicar responsible for the Servites in Santiago, told the Missionary Service News Agency.

"This young man did not know Father Faustino," he said. "Inspired by the madness of Satanic groups, he attacked him, but he would have attacked anyone who was in that place at that time."

"A brother who was present in the cathedral told us that after killing Father Faustino, the youth knelt down by his side invoking Satan's name," Father Zanella reported.

3. the sad thing is
"Satanism" is a reflection of christianity, as is the absurd idea that there is an "embodiment" of evil. Even the middle eastern "shaitan" (equivalent of a djinn) and the coopted gods of fire and the morningstar (Hephaestus, aka Vulcan, the Morningstar (Lucifer) and various and assorted tricksters (Loki) and hypersexual creatures like goats, none of which were inherently evil, all became rolled into this stupid idea of "satan" and "satanism".

Unfortunately the same kinds of irrational people who buy into christian literalism are as apt to buy into the idea of "satanism", thinking it somehow means affiliation with darkness and evil.

It's all so absurd and ridiculous in the 21st century.

4. As Sui says ....
So called 'Satanism' is a creation of the medaevil church, a bogeyman based on the diametric opposites of the ideal christ ...

Those who affect a 'satanic' posture, performing what are defined as satanic rituals, are better defined as 'satanic dabblers' ... They play with a caricature of satanism handed to them by those who NEED such bogeymen as a prop for their own beliefs ...

5. When Latin American right-wing U.S.-supported leaders
start getting pushy with the people, their militaries, paramilitaries, police forces, etc. are known to bump off students, suspected "leftists," clergy, human rights advocates, and union organizers and officials.

Since Chile never came completely away from that vicious government we installed through Pinochet, I have to wonder if this wasn't a staged event just to put a "whammy" on local citizens, to scare them back into line, or something similar. Maybe Father Faustino was close to being a "liberal."

8. They haven't really cleaned up their image completely, either,
have they? I'll bet you're aware that they have been sending their stupid torture ship, "La Esmeralda" around the world on "good will tours," even though it was one of three ships they used to torture people off shore (as in Guantanamo?) during Pinochet's regime.

They are protested everywhere they go, but they still keep sending this stupid boat. They must have a few screws loose. It tells us that they are NOT making a clean break from their Pinochet past.

The Esmeralda, the first foreign ship to arrive in Halifax to take part in Tall Ships 2000, slowly makes its way to its berth at Pier 22 Wednesday. Amnesty International plans to protest the ship's presence.

Pinochet's torture ship heads into protest storm

Blair urged to ban training vessel from Britain until Chile admits its use as floating jail after 1973 coup

The Guardian

The Chilean navy's infamous torture ship, the Esmeralda, is to visit Britain twice this summer after the foreign secretary, Jack Straw, refused petitions for it to be banned. Mr Straw acted despite Chile's refusal to admit to or apologise for the vessel's horrific past.
The elegant, four-masted ship, known as "the white lady", will sail into Dartmouth harbour on June 27 despite the protests of the family of a British Roman Catholic priest, Michael Woodward, who died after being tortured on the vessel following General Augusto Pinochet's coup in 1973.

The Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn, who campaigned for the prosecution of Gen Pinochet while the former dictator was detained in Britain five years ago, yesterday tabled an early day motion in parliament saying that the ship should not be welcomed in British waters. "We want to condemn the visit of the Esmeralda because of its past associations with the Chilean navy," he said.

Labour MPs and MEPs are lobbying Tony Blair to cancel the visit. "A visit by the Esmeralda would be degrading to those people who were tortured or killed on board," the Labour MEP Eryl McNally wrote to the prime minister.

Chile's continued refusal to admit that the ship was used as a centre for the systematic rape, maiming and killing of opponents of Gen Pinochet's regime has seen its recent trips to Latin American countries greeted by angry protests.
