Bush campaign wants Nancy Reagan at GOP convention
Bush campaign officials are holding out hope that Nancy Reagan, widow of the late president, can be enticed to attend -- and possibly even to speak to -- the Republican National Convention in New York next month.

(snip)

Mrs. Reagan might condition her appearance on a clear ability to demonstrate her support for stem cell research.

"She can have anything she wants," a former Reagan administration official said.

Initial inquiries from party officials to Mrs. Reagan's advisors in California have been rebuffed, a Reagan confidant said, "but they may still be working on her."

Republican National Committee chairman Ed Gillespie made it clear today that he salivates at the prospect of Mrs. Reagan in New York.

6. I Would Love To See Nancy On OUR Stage.....
Supporting on of OUR values. Stem cell research and the promise that it holds SHOULD cross party lines, but oh no. What was Clinton'e message last night that the media chooses not to show? That we ARE a nation united and it is the REPUBLICAN PARTY that wants to divide our nation. We need to keep remionging everyone we see that that is their intention.

Followed by Rove having an aneurysm.

36. Realistically, she probably won't show up, BUT...
It would be almost as good for him to say something like, "I talked to my mother today, and she is behind you 100 percent!"

THAT might just happen!

9. They crave her benediction. It's as close as they can get to Reagan.
I would love to see her tell them to buzz off. She owes them nothing.
She's been through a long, exhausting ordeal, and she deserves her privacy, instead of a close up look at their little flushed, sweaty, beady-eyed pig faces.

14. I thought she had already declined?
If I were Gillespie, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Nancy has little use for the Bushes & I doubt she would go out of her way to help them, especially since stem cell research is verboten to the mouth-breathers that make up a lot of Boy George's base.

Didn't she once say, "I don't give a damn about the right-to-lifers?"

17. Please Mrs. Reagan...
.. please don't give in! The GOP has made no secret that they disdain you, and your family, for your support of stem cell research. It just does not fit with their platform to pander to the ultra-right wing religious right mega-organizations, the ones that pump millions into their campaign coffers. The GOP wants to use you.. nothing more. They want to cash in on your late husband's death, while continuing to fight the one issue near and dear to your heart. You owe them nothing.

24. Regardless if you agree w/ her or husband's politics, we can all agree
...that she loved her husband and was very protective of him.

Nancy Reagan has class...I might not agree w/ her or her late husbands politics, but she has CLASS...

She won't be caught dead up on the GOP convention stage stumping for Bu$h Co....okay, so maybe they would prop up her dead body, but it wouldn't be by her choosing.

She is "speaking out" on Stem Cell Research by having Jr. speak at the Democratic Convention tonite....RR Jr. wouldn't be speaking unless Mom approved it....her children are carrying the torch for Ronnie....she won't stain Ronnie's legacy by going to the GOP convention....she may be old and frail looking, but Nancy is a strong woman and won't let anyone use her...

I read about this in Kitty Kelly's book

it's pretty accepted wisdom

http://web.archive.org/web/20021102144740/http://chicoexaminer.com/col_KJ/col_KJ_19981029.html

The sexual shenanigans of Ronald and Nancy Reagan were never a secret. Both were most relentlessly promiscuous while in Hollywood, locus of the nation’s largest, longest, strongest and most obsessively tended gossip grapevine.

Many a starlet seeking studio entree via the well-traveled smile-and-spread circuit hopefully ungirdled her loins and passed under Reagan, while Nancy’s name was routinely circulated among executives in search of a fast and practiced backseat blowjob. Power to the mavens of the entertainment press means possessing such tantalizing tidbits; once the Reagans began their improbable electoral ascent, the information easily passed through the flimsy scrim separating the Hollywood desk from those patrolling the political beat.

Campaign operatives and reporters shamelessly swap gossip with nearly every breath, and thus the Reagans’ sexual adventuring eventually became such common knowledge that even I, who have always occupied only the very outer arm of the political-gossip spiral, knew of Nancy’s legendary mouthwork long before Robin Leach coyly alluded to it during Reagan’s first term, and had heard as well of the 57-year-old Reagan’s creaky coupling with an 18-year-old campaign worker.

Though until Kitty Kelly I’d never heard the tale of how Reagan blithely bounced the bedsprings with lover Christine Larson while wife Nancy struggled to give birth to daughter Patti, I was one of probably millions of Americans cognizant of the open joke of Nancy’s cuckolding of Ronnie with longtime lover Frank Sinatra in the residence quarters of the White House, and anyone in the nation who paid attention to the numbers—and could count even to nine—realized Nancy was four months pregnant when she pledged to Ron "I do." ...

30. Oh yeah, sure "Kitty Kelley"...
Well, first of all, Kitty Kelley is not someone I would go to as a "relevant source" of info...Furthermore, assuming its true, I can only say that I as a general rule could give a flying FUCheney about people's sex lifes, "alleged" or otherwise. That is a bi-partisan statement....I didn't give a crap if Hillary had women lovers, Big Dawg was getting BJ's in the oval office - whatever...And the same goes for the Reagan's and the "alleged" infidelities....whatever...

I have met Nancy Reagan...my Grandparents were good friends with the Reagan's and my father worked in the Reagan and Bush administrations. I never agreed with their politics (still don't and I don't agree with my father's politics) but I can say that Nancy Reagan is a woman with class and I'll just leave it at that....And she won't speak at the GOP convention, I'll put money on that based on my knowledge of her as a woman of class. And if she gave good head - good on her!

who adversely impact our lives via said hypocrisy and soulless corruption. Look at where we are now because of these hypocrites. They basically draft anti-drug and sodomy laws while having anal intercourse with their secretary and simultaneously snort coke off her back.

Also, Nancy Reagan got Ronny into astrology and ran the country on the whims of her personal astrologer - which is also well known. Real classy.

Maybe if Mrs Reagan thought she could sway votes for stem cell research..but I'm not sure that's even enough to cause her to accept.

It's a blow to the GOP for any Reagan to be speaking at a Democratic Convention. They are feeling just how much of a blow that is now...in the short time between conventions.
