Photo war on first nite-Kerry counters his silly shot with Bush follies
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/story/216215p-186123c.html

Although Democrats were determined to minimize the Bush bashing last night, they quickly got into a spat with Republicans as a silly photo op sparked a photo war.

While Democrats rallied at their Boston convention, the nominee, Kerry was on a tour of a sterile NASA facility at Cape Canaveral in Florida with former astronauts-turned-Sens. John Glenn and Bill Nelson.

Ignoring the political rule to avoid being caught eating or wearing a silly hat, Kerry donned a turquoise "safe suit" - a goofy-looking outfit that made him a dead ringer for Woody Allen in "Sleeper."

The Bush campaign blast-E-mailed the Kerry photo - paired with the infamous shot of 1988 Democratic nominee Michael Dukakis in a tank - under the headline "Earth to Kerry."

<snip>

But the Kerry camp, asked for a response, sent photos of Bush in a ceremonial kimono, cheerleading at Yale and picking his nose years ago at a baseball game.

1. I love that they sent the nose picking picture. How funny - just consider
that a warning, you repugs, if you want to start a photo war.

3. Rapid response team, go!
I don't think this is a game the Bushistas really want to play, considering the number of stupid photos out there of their guy that exist (nearly a 1 to 1 correspondence of all photos of Stupidhead). But it's apparently all they have anymore: They surely can't run on Stupidhead's record, so we'll see the battle of the silly photos.

Bush falls off a Segway
Bush chokes on a pretzel
Bush hammers thumb on a Habitat for Humanity house
Bush does a ceremonial first cut with a chainsaw in the snow
Bush bonks his head getting into and out of Chopper One
Bush salutes holding dog
Bush drops dog
Bush drops trou
Bush drops out of sight

40. Your link does not back your claim
"(A)a close-up examination of the photograph of President Clinton reveals blurriness around the putative lens caps indicative of digital manipulation:

And don't you mean "Klinton"?

And yes, Junior probably figured out that he didn't have the lenscaps removed all by himself. Kudos.

53. Don't make claims you can't support
is all I'm saying. There's an adundance of real images we can use, as already demonstrated, and presumably fake ones will only fall back on yourself. But hey, maybe the pics of Clinton and Bush using capped binoculars ARE real. Then here's another explaination:

Here is an explanation, from my nephew who is a senior officer in the Texas National Guard, and left the service two years ago as a Captain in the U.S. Army.

His note, unedited, upon seeing the photo you sent me captioned "Big Trouble" follows.

"The main point of this is the photo. I looked at the vision device closely and it looks like its a pair of NVDs (Night Vision Devices), not binoculars.

"For the unknowing, NVDs are kept capped during the day as the lens burns out if exposed to very bright light. (I know this first hand as my driver in Korea burned his goggles out by leaving them on and uncapped during the day.)

"There is a pinhole in the lenscap that lets in only enough light to active the close tint (the green shades you see when you look through a night vision scope) so you get an idea of what it does at night. So, to the Democrats who don't really understand what the military does, and never look closely at a picture, what you are looking at is a picture of the president following proper procedure in the use and care of a $4,000 piece of equipment."

Good enough? In any case, let's just leave this picture out ot the discussion and focus on those that matter, ok?

Also, I was under the assumption Clinton spells his name with a "C". You really have that bad a spelling problem?

Sure the pic is funny. But are you telling me I can't say that I think this particular pic shouldn't be used in this 'picture war' because there is doubts about validity and origin? Not that I would listen. The pic proves nothing and is better left discarded. If you want to be of help here, dig up some real pics of Dubya in embarrasing situations instead.

But saying John Kerry is a dead ringer for Woody Allen in "Sleeper" is stupid, Kerry being about a foot and a half taller and much better looking.

Explain Please!!!!!
Why did the media make fun of the photo-op of Dukakis in a tank wearing a helmet that is required by those who actually operate this equipment......a tank consists of extremely hard metal and one finds themselves in very close quarters, the danger of slaming ones head into the frame of the tank is evident. No one be they media, cons or libs think it silly or ridiculous that a politician entering a hard hat area, where one is protected from falling beams, bricks, equipment, etc, is having a photo-op of the politician wearing a required hard-hat.

John Kerry had the opportunity to go to NASA the center of the Space Program, that Georgie and the Neocons support funding for further Space advancements. He was allowed to observe, crawl over and through and around an actual rocket. Because of the sensitivity of this equipment everyone entering this area is required to wear special gear......similar to entering a special quaranteen intensive care unit of a hospital. Yet the media whores....Woodruff, Hemmer, Blitzer, etc.....who if they had the opportunity to have the same experience and report on it would have had to wear the same gear and done the very same thing they are condemning Kerry for.

I would love to have the few working "Journalists," actually show the actual tapings of the celebrity media whores who have flown in jets wearing full flight gear with their faces pushed to the back of their helmets while the Pilots show them the manuevers a certain jet is capable of. I would love to have them show the actual tapings of them in nuclear subs, wearing the required gear.

All of this hoopla about Dukakis, Kerry is even more ridiculous when they then show, Georgie in a flight suit, wearing the wrong military brass, strutting with the un-released belts around his groin. Or Georgie on a ranch(????), cutting down the forest.

46. Bush operating chainsaw without proper safety gear ...

A colleague, who's safety officer on a wildfire crew, noted that Bush has violated his own government's rules for what forestry employees are supposed to wear when using chainsaws -- aviator shades and jeans aren't sufficient, and those lightweight earplugs wouldn't protect his hearing.

I just heard on radio(Lynn Cullen) that CNN has just shown it with rabbit ears imposed on the photo!

Even though the Kerry folks countered smartly, the Cheney'in networks won't show the Chimpy photos.

As I said in another thread, the Kerry campaign has to be smarter than this and not get the candidate in any "costume" photo ops that are even questionable as to how the RNC and Cheny'in nets and newspapers will use!

Didn't you learn in school that a bully will make fun of anything. You don't have to 'give' them an opportunity. Kerry's response was perfect-it says we don't take any shit and we have a sense of humor. The repugs seem to be doing pretty well making themselves look like petty bullies with no plan, just pictures.

with dirt, cat hair, whatever crud that is clinging to your clothes, shoes, hair. If the suit were designed to keep you alive, it would have to be something more than a Tyvek bunny suit.

You wear them to prevent the expensive stuff that is in the room from being mucked up with dirt.

but it doesn't help if no one sees it. It needs to be shown on the talking heads shows.

38. Is Dukakis really "banished"?
Dukakis, ironically, had been banished from the Democratic convention as a Massachusetts liberal the party would prefer to forget.

Why?

54. What kind of question is that? Why does anything matter?
Just for your information, I like Dukakis. And I was just wondering if him being "banished" was just a figure of speech meaning that the DNC indirectly has made understood that they don't want his face on the air for fear of sparking repug hatred, or that he literally has been banished and wouldn't be let in to the convention even if he stood in the door and just wanted an audience seat. So yes, I want to know, what's the deal here, if there even is one.

59. I would imagine that a researcher who would go to the bother to
find a picture of Clinton like your offering, might be able to find out anything he wanted about his friend Dukakis without a spurious posting to this thread.

61. Well I'm sorry to disappoint you
but I use Google, and though I could find the Bush/Clinton pic with a simple search for urban legends, I've come up blank on Dukakis in this matter. What, are you really that pissed because I pulled up a site that showed Clinton as well having the caps on? Please. Maybe you should read the explanation for the caps-on thing that I posted later.

Back to the real question, nobody here is interested in the fact that Dukakis may have been explicitly banished from the convention?

65. The Kerry Campaign needs to circulate as many photos of Kerry as possible.
.. ALL of Kerry in full uniform during his military service. At least he doesn't HAVE to play dress up!! What a bunch of wankers, those republicans.. can't win an election on its own merits ONCE AGAIN! We got that evil dipshit Bush the First, instead of Dukakis, because of their filthy tricks.. when in fact, Dukakis is a brilliant leader.. whose knowledge of economics and policy is staggering.

The problem is that the media whores are just too happy to run bad photos and stories about Kerry.. while ignoring the volumes of lame-ass photos of Bush. They are Goring Kerry this time around.. Supposedly voters say they "don't know what Kerry stands for!". Well.. Kerry has done his best to articulate that through his paid advertising, BUT the other part of that equations SHOULD come from the MEDIA!! Helloooo?? They are the ones that should be articulating the positions of EACH candidate, INSTEAD they are focusing on name-calling, funny photos, and innuendo. The US media is NOT doing its job!!!

84. I don't think Dukkakis lost,
over the flying squirrel photo. BFEE 1 wrapped himself in the flag, used a lot of sound bites, and threw out much bible thumping bullshit to befuddle the sheeple. Save for Ann Richards, we just didn't fight very hard in '88. Dukkakis and the Dems just played it too safe against a criminal in a John Wayne suit. I hope we don't play it too safe this year.

I think it shows that Kerry realizes how important space exploration is. The only space bush knows is the vast universe of space between his ears.
