Man Kills 3, Himself, in Costa Rica Hostage Crisis

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (Reuters) - A Costa Rican policeman who took nine people hostage in the Chilean Embassy Tuesday killed three of his captives before apparently turning the gun on himself, the government said.
"When we went in a few minutes ago, we found four people dead," said Costa Rican Security Minister Rogelio Ramos. He said the hostage-taker was among the dead and that he was killed by a bullet to the head.

The dead included the consul at the embassy.

The policeman was in charge of security at the embassy but took the hostages Tuesday afternoon. Police believe he shot three of his captives at the beginning of the crisis and that they died before he killed himself.
