FORT MYERS, Fla. - A former Department of Children & Families worker was charged with defrauding the state of more than $93,000, including more than $50,000 in child care subsidies that she directed to the mother of a friend, officials said.
Jesenia Gonzalez, 26, of Cape Coral, was charged Monday with six counts of scheming to defraud, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Tuesday.

Investigators said she also falsified four client applications for economic assistance and directed the benefits to herself and Soria.
In one case, Gonzalez told a needy woman that she didn't qualify for food stamps, then approved her household to get the benefits.
