"On my road to Boston," he said in a melodramatically somber voice, "I was ambushed. I was ambushed by a Republican National Committee smear campaign. ... I've been accused of being a traitor to my country and being a liar." Wilson disputed the idea that the Senate Intelligence report had damaged his credibility, chalking up that notion to misrepresentations of the report by his political opponents and misrepresentations in the report itself. (Most notably, Wilson claimed, "They misquoted a reports officer who went to see my wife after the report came out in tears saying, 'What can I do?' And he has since written a letter but his wife will not let him publish it because they are afraid.")
