Michael Reagan bashes brother's stem-cell speech
Los Angeles Daily News

By Helen Kennedy
New York Daily News

Thursday, July 29, 2004 - BOSTON -- Conservative radio host Michael Reagan went on TV to criticize his brother's speech here Tuesday and bitterly complain that Nancy Reagan loves him best. "He is her favorite," Michael Reagan said on Fox News. "Ron can do no wrong. I mean, basically that's it, Ron can do no wrong."

Ron Reagan's stem cell research speech to the Democrats -- and Nancy Reagan's dis of an invite to the GOP convention -- sent the Republicans into a tizzy. Michael Reagan led the attacks. "He is being used by the Democrats," Michael Reagan said. "He is the typical liberal: He hates George Bush."

Michael, Ronald Reagan's adopted son with first wife Jane Wyman, has long competed with Ron Reagan for the affection of Nancy Reagan. In his 1988 book, "On The Outside Looking In," he wrote that the Reagans never loved him.

He bashed his brother Wednesday for not attending last week's home-porting ceremony with Nancy for the Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier, saying Ron called the ship "a weapon of mass destruction."

1. Ahhh, the contrasts. The Contrasts.
One, a man with a soul and a passion. The other, devoid of a soul, but he does have a bank account.

People know the difference.

while Michael is from a former marriage, and not even a blood relative. How old was he when Nancy married Reagan?

I guess he is too old to learn that one does not beg or demand love; one earns it.

And we wonder why they are so full of bile and piss and vinegar? They are all formerly abused children out to take their vengeance on whatever group it is deemed socially acceptable to do so.

The conservative: the neglected child. But this one has an aircraft named after his daddy, and to him it's a WMD. He'll make those commies/ragheads/whatevers pay for the fact that his mommy never loved him.

His mother (maybe, should, who knows?) loves him more than Ron Jr. That's how it works. How much older than Ron is he anyway?

Nancy is his STEPMOTHER. Jane Wyman is his mother, and it still living. She is 90 years old. Michael needs to get a grip. If he didn't get enough "mother love", maybe he should talk to his MOTHER about it.

64. Honestly, that's his choice
How he felt as child is one thing. Jane Wyman doesn't impress me as the warmest of moms either. But he's had 40 years of adult life to GET OVER IT. Someone who carries that bitterness far into adulthood either didn't get the therapy they needed, or somehow likes feeling like a victim.

70. I guarantee, no matter how much money you have in the bank
if you see yourself as a victim, you will hold onto everything you can, because your view of the world is that the pie is only so big, and if someone else's slice gets bigger, then yours must have gotten smaller. These people are trying to fill the hole in their heart with money and empty ideology. They've latched onto the neocon bullshit because it sells. In fact, in the case of Ann Coulter, it sells even though SHE CAN'T WRITE!

Someday, I hope someday soon, these "journalists" won't lose their jobs because they were fired by the "liberal media". They'll lose their jobs because they have no audience.

Wait, that's it!!! I'm having an "Ah Ha" moment. These folks all wrap themselves in neocon patriotism to KEEP their jobs, because in the REAL WORLD, they can't compete. They're mediocre. Ann Coulter can't really write. All the TV people can't get a job on the major networks. Dennis Miller hasn't been funny for a LONG time and even when he was "kinda" funny, he was his number one fan. They're all afraid of losing their jobs. That's why they're all so MEAN! "I've got mine. You go get yours." Think about it. Did any of them really have anything going on in their careers before they became right wing wackos? Anyone? Anyone?

Perhaps Michael, in some rare reflective moment, ought to consider his own words because they hold the clue as to why Ron has earned Nancy's RESPECT. Yes, Michael, it's not so much which man she loves more, but which man she respects...

The man who stood before an American public to promote the science which could benefit perhaps not even himself but millions of his fellow human beings, or the man who used his public forum to think only of himself and his own emotional needs?

The man who showed true respect to his own parents by becoming an individual driven by a passion of conscience, or a man who, given that same measure in life, could not find it within himself to share those lessons with the world? Which is the greater legacy, Michael? He who is given much and rues only that he was not given all, not even realizing that the true measure of giving is in what is shared in return?

Any parent may love a child, but respect is a quality which is earned by the child who grows and evolves into an adult in their own right. It is in the nature of things which makes it difficult to offer respect to someone whose life is consumed by depthless self-pity rather than the generosity of self-sacrifice.

There are millions upon millions in this country -- the sick, the homeless, the poor, the jobless, the hungry, the dispossessed and discarded -- not born to privilege, not fortunate enough to have been offered the key to the golden door, not afforded the opportunity by virtue of their name and family to assume a place whereby to reach millions and potentially change lives -- who look to those who have been blessed with such opportunity to offer them a voice. You chose to use that voice to express nothing but your bitterness and concern for self.

When you grow up, Michael, may you learn a great lesson -- that love may be given freely, but respect is earned. To find mercy we must offer mercy, To find forgiveness for ourselves we must first offer it unconditionally to others. And love? Perhaps these words will resonate:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13, vs 5-7

or just his brother and mother? His parents didn't love him? Well, he should thank his lucky stars that he's making money off of their name. A LOT of money. If we loved all the little kids in the world the way they feel they should be loved, would we eventually eradicate Republicanism? They seem to behave like resentful little children who's wants aren't being met.

25. I think Michael is a classic 'angry adoptee'...
perhaps if he searched and reunited with his birth family he would let go of some of this anger. I do have to say he WAS treated horribly by Ron Sr. and Nancy, though. But he's a grown man and should be able to work through his issues without dragging his brother into it every chance he gets, for political reasons.

his birth father and Jane Wyman his birth mother. Surely he lived with one or both of them. I don't think he can be reunited though as both are dead. His problem isn't his parents-its his negative conservative (yes they seem to be mutually inclusive) attitude towards life.

51. Take a Message to Michael: Nancy Favors Ron Over You Because He's Her Son.
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 03:00 PM by David Zephyr
"He is her favorite," Michael Reagan said on Fox News.

Michael you blithering idiot: Jane Wyman, not Nancy Davis Reagan, is your mother.

Of course, she favors Ron, you pathetic, whining moron.

75. Would be good for Michael to speak.
I know that you're being facetious, but it would be nice to see Michael speak at the RNC.

What a contrast. Obama at the DNC vs. M. Reagan at the RNC.

A public relations disaster is beginning to take form for the republicans.

Besides, how many protesters were there in Boston for the DNC? I expect that the numbers of protesters will be orders of magnitude higher for the RNC in New York.

None of this is playing out right for rove. Too bad. Perhaps he and Michael can get together and write a book about stem cell research destroys the fabric of United States society and ushers in anarchy.

Perhaps when rove or a loved one comes down with Parkinson's or Alzheimer's, he might change his mind. Until then, I guess we get to live with the fanaticism of Michael. Besides, has anyone listened to the maniacal ravings of the so-called dr. james dobson regarding stem-cell research?

I guess it's time to go back to the dark ages and superstition. Where do these guys come from?

55. What a winey baby....Micheal "GROW UP"!
He bashed his brother Wednesday for not attending last week's home-porting ceremony with Nancy for the Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier, saying Ron called the ship "a weapon of mass destruction."

Could it be that Ron has his own mind and that the evilness of his father was not passed down in the blood line.

63. Why shouldn't she love Ron Jr. best?
Jesus! He had a mother (who still happens to be alive) and he was Nancy's stepson. Now, that's no excuse for him to be treated poorly (assuming you believe he was) but give me a fucking break!

72. I hope he speaks at the RNC. Nancy will probably have to smack him
down and it gives Ron, Jr. -a dem by the way- a chance to stand aloof and allow Mikey to look as stupid and petty and disloyal as he is. Between this and Rick Santorum, I'm going to have to watch this convention.
