FBI Issues Terror Warning for Calif., N.M.
As predictable as sick, perverted, demented clockwork, yes?
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/politics/9273300.htm

TED BRIDIS
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The FBI warned police in California and New Mexico that it received information about possible terrorist activity in their states. However, the warning wasn't specific about particular targets or a method of attack, a federal law enforcement official said Thursday.

The FBI decided to pass along the threat information but warned that it was considered unsubstantiated and uncorroborated, said the official, who spoke only on condition of anonymity.

The vague warning was distributed to authorities in California, New Mexico and some other Western states the official did not identify.

17. Kerry's speech
That is exactly what I thought when I saw that headline.

But that can't be the reason. Our government would never do a thing like that would it. <sarcasm>

6. And why do journalists (and Condi) find it amazing that intelligence
information isn't completely specific? I've never understood that. Do they think that terrorists are going to post a date, time, place, and method of attack?

After all, we started out on yellow alert and have never been safer than that since he started the system. We are no safer now than we were 3 years ago. I think it's time for a change at the top.

24. Is this current wave of unsubstantiated terror warnings designed to
induce public fear so that the recommendations of the 9/11 commission will be hastily passed without serious consideration by Congress about the loss of civil liberties we will experience through poorly designed legislation and lack of intense scrutiny by Congress?

Like the Patriot Act was, and the IWR was?

25. I want to organize October Surprise teams
to respond to BS like this. So first of all, I would ask, does anybody really pay attention to these any more? Do they actually help Bush* at all?

And secondly, there is obviously some risk in publicly challenging these. Some have stepped forward already. Someday soon, Ridge will say they have broken up a top secret terrorist plot and therefore discredit the critics.

Of course, those 'arrested' in the plot will languish in jail for months before the charges are dropped, but by then the damage will have been done.

Any suggestions?

26. and a 35% chance of a decent-sized earthquake
somewhere along a major California fault in the next decade or so. I know which vague warning concerns me more - and which one I can actually do something about!

" the warning wasn't specific about particular targets or a method of attack": Hmmmmm - so somewhere in a state that's approximately 1000 miles long and 250 miles wide something is going to happen sometime. Yup, seems like a safe bet. The big question is, should I go shopping today, or can I put it off until tomorrow?

And shouldn't the next book on the reading list be "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"?

30. So, I'm in California and I don't see the admin. trying to DO ANYTHING
to stop a terror attack. And since Bushco spent the Homeland Security money in Montana and Wyoming, I don't expect them to do anything out here. If we get blown up, blame on the Bushies for their misuse of the Homeland Security money.

36. And I'm in Arizona, right between CA and NM, where we
have nuclear power plants going pfffff! because birds shit on them and electrical transformers catching fire right and left and forests burning up all over the place. . . .

E.J. Montini refers to Laurel and Hardy; we might just a well reference the Keystone Kops - the current mess would be a farce if it weren't so damn serious.

http://www.azcentral.com/news/columns/articles/0729montini29.html

<snip>

I'm wondering why Gov. Janet Napolitano didn't use her nationally televised speech Tuesday night to ask how the Bush administration could be trusted to protect us from al-Qaida when it couldn't save Arizona's power grid from nearly being destroyed by bird droppings.

For that matter, I'm wondering why Republicans didn't respond to Napolitano's appearance by pointing out that the only supplies a terrorist needs to take down Arizona's electrical system during Napolitano's watch is a box of matches, a jar of peanut butter and a bag of sunflower seeds.

Come to think of it, I'm wondering why it is that following a power surge in June that shut down our nuclear power plant, followed by two substation fires in July that still threaten blackouts, our politicians are only quietly "monitoring" the situation instead of screaming for answers. Particularly while APS is demonstrating as much skill in moving transformers as Laurel and Hardy had with pianos.

And I'm wondering how it is that 14 years after being warned to guard against possible terrorist activity against power grids (it goes back to the first Bush president and the first war against Iraq) that a lunatic wanting to cause havoc in our crucial electoral "swing" state doesn't require a trip to the ammunition depot but only a quick stop at the Circle K.

<end snip>

It's been disproven, but better safe than sorry, I guess.

Besides, declaring a terra alert in Massachusetts would be FAR too obvious.
