Clark Dismisses Bush as Unfit to Command (MSNBC)
Clark brought the crowd to its feet early in the evening repeatedly with a hard-edged address in which he denounced the Bush administration from the perspective of a career soldier.

In particular, Clark accused the president of acting as though the Republicans had “a monopoly on the best defense of our nation.” By doing so, he said, Bush was “committing a fraud on the American people.”

28. Clark gave a great speech - too bad many didn't see it because of the
talking heads!

Those F*ckers and bootlickers on CNN were talking throughout the first 90% of his speech until they cut in finally...Most insulting was the fact that when Wesley Clark asked for a moment of silence, the whole convention was silent in memory of the fallen soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq and Wolf Blitzer and Judy Woodruff kept talking away....I was so pissed I called those MF's and left a message not fit for a mommy like me to say, however to the standards of FUCheney.

:grr:

6. He is absolutely right.
And I'm so sick of hearing Right Wingers say that we should all cower in fear if Kerry gets elected or that our military won't respect a Democratic CIC.

We believe in using diplomacy and alliances instead of acting like arrogant cowboys. We believe in taking care of our Veterans and using force cautiously, rather than throwing all of our money at corrupt contractors and hyping up worthless missile defense systems. That doesn't make us weaker on defense, only stronger.

I have this feeling that people keep on posting the Clark for Sec Def stuff just to annoy the hell out of the Clarkies that faithfully respond everytime correcting the erronous statement.

There is no way that much repetition can occur.

18. Uh-oh...Did anyone notice this?
That bit about "...secure a future for our children that is worthy of our heritage."

Okay, it's probably just a phrase that sounded moving, but it has too much in common with a nasty little saying popular among neo-nazis. I hope the Rethugs don't try to make hay from that. Ugh.

"...into the truth."

Then Wes caught fire:

To the best of my memory of one hell of a speech.

25. Clark was great! Try CSPAN.org...
There's a page for the Convention and speakers, with transcripts, sound and video. It's gonna make the workday fly by for me tomorrow.

LeinesRed, your in for a real treat. Clark's speech makes the national security case for John Kerry. We're starting to see some daylight ahead...

26. 3 War heroes one right after another.
POW! POW! POW!

Clark. Cleland. Kerry.

I mean really, how everyone does NOT support the Democratic Party boggles my mind. Military heroes like Clark and Kerry. Civil rights leaders like Al Sharpton. Strong, intelligent females like Teresa Heinz, Hilary and Cate Edwards. Populist Southern icons like Bill Clinton and John Edwards.

Man, after this convention, I am so pumped up about my party. 2000 seems like so long ago and such a different time.

27. Check out Salon Article on Veterans Event With Clark, Cleland and Carville
Clark was magnificent tonight - I was so proud.

I found this article today at http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2004/07/26/veterans/index_np.html. You can do a free day pass to read it all.

Three great quotes:

"....the veterans were given retired Gen. Wesley Clark, who Carville said will make "major contributions in the John Kerry administration." (this gave me great hope!!!)

"In a building riff that brought veterans to their feet, Clark said: "That flag is our flag. We served under that flag. We got up and stood reveille formation, we stood taps, we fought under that flag. We've seen men die for that flag, and we've seen men buried under that flag. No Dick Cheney or John Ashcroft or Tom DeLay is going to take that flag away from us."

"Let me tell you something," Carville said in a sudden moment of quiet directness. "John Kerry is a better man than George W. Bush. I'm talking man to man. Man to man, it ain't even close."

49. "Man to man, it ain't even close".
This is the meme that has to get out. The convention made a great start at setting the record straight as far as who Democrats are and who and what John Kerry is. Now, for the next 100 days it has got to be driven home, "John Kerry is a better man than George W. Bush"! Everyone here should know by now that I am not the biggest Kerry fan in the bunch, but I don't give a damn! I will not critize Kerry or allow anyone else to until after 11/2. It no longer matters what should be or what could have been, it only matters now that Caligula Bush gets his ass kicked out of Washington by a John Kerry sized boot!

42. Yes. Without a leadership that makes intelligent decisions in critical
situations, all of our lives, and particularly the lives of our troops, are at severe risk. If Bu$h was a platoon leader in Vietnam, I bet he'd have to watch his back all the time because his incompetence might tempt someone to frag him.

George (Armstrong Custer) Bu$h is the Commander-in-Chief of the US.

This is frightening.

48. All active Generals and Admirals and high ranking Pentagon
personal should be proud of Retired General Clark's speech at the Democratic Convention.

In reality they will probably follow orders from the Commander of Chief and try to stifle the speech from the troops, or write General Wesley Clark off as a commie or a terrorist.
