FBI Whistleblower Claims Confirmed
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/07/29/eveningnews/main632983.shtml

<snip>

(CBS) A newly disclosed letter confirmed charges by a former FBI interpreter that she was fired at least in part because she blew the whistle on incompetent workers at the bureau.

When the FBI fired interpreter Sibel Edmonds more than two years ago after only a few months on the job, it had no idea the can of worms it was opening up. And today it got yet another taste.

In a letter released on Capitol Hill, FBI Director Robert Mueller acknowledged that the a recently concluded internal Justice Department investigation found "a contributing factor" in Edmonds firing was the fact that she had accused the bureau of ineptitude, reports CBS News Correspondent Jim Stewart.

Edmonds insisted today, the ineptitude still exists.

"The problems were systemic problems that existed within the FBI's translation units that involve security breaches and also incompetence. These were the problems I reported," she said.

4. Not too sure about that....
Last article I read was that she was competent in English, Farsi and Turkish. From what she's said in the past, it sounded like the woman who was encouraging her to join a foreign organization was Turkish, as well. So, might be something to do with Turkey. Just guessing, because she's still under a gag order and there have been no specifics mentioned.

Cheers.

11. breakfornews.com
a website devoted in part to Sibel Edmonds' incredible story.

http://www.breakfornews.com

according to Sibel, if her testimony is ever made public "certain elected officials" will be convicted and imprisoned. Since the only elected officials in the executive branch are the pRes and VP, i wonder who she means?

12. Start here
Sibel Edmonds - Disinfopedia
Sibel Dinez Edmonds "was hired as a translator of Turkish and other Middle Eastern languages by the FBI after" the September 11, 2001 attack. <1>

* On July 13, 2003, CBS News' posted an October 2002 interview by Ed Bradley with Edmonds. The introduction states that:

"This is the story of hundreds, if not thousands, of foreign language documents that the FBI neglected to translate before and after the Sept.11 attacks because of problems in its language department - documents that detailed what the FBI heard on wiretaps and learned during interrogations of suspected terrorists.

"Sibel Edmonds, a translator who worked at the FBI's language division, says the documents weren't translated because the divison was riddled with incompetence and corruption.

"Edmonds was fired last year after reporting her concerns to FBI officials. She told her story behind closed doors to investigators in Congress and to the Justice Department."

* The Department of Justice "has taken the unusual step of retroactively classifying information it gave to Congress nearly two years ago regarding a former F.B.I. translator who charged that the bureau had missed critical terrorist warnings, officials said ."

"Law enforcement officials say the secrecy surrounding the translator, Sibel Edmonds, is essential to protecting information that could reveal intelligence-gathering operations. But some members of Congress and Congressional aides said they were troubled by the move, which comes as critics have accused the Bush administration of excessive secrecy." <2>
