GOP sorry for sending flier

BY GARY FINEOUT

gfineout@herald.com

TALLAHASSEE - The Republican Party of Florida apologized Thursday for sending out a flier over the weekend to some Miami-Dade County Republicans that raised questions about the accuracy of touch-screen machines.

Featuring a smiling picture of President Bush flashing a thumbs-up, the flier urged Republicans living in south and west Miami-Dade County to order an absentee ballot to ``make sure your vote counts.''

''The liberal Democrats have already begun their attacks and the new electronic voting machines do not have a paper ballot to verify your vote in case of a recount,'' reads the flier. ``Make sure your vote counts, order your absentee ballot today.''

The flier directly contradicts statements from Gov. Jeb Bush and Secretary of State Glenda Hood, who have spent weeks trying to reassure Florida voters that the new touch-screen machines used in 15 counties will work for the upcoming elections. Bush has even assailed critics of the machines as being partisans working to stir up voters against his older brother and Republicans.

2. If I was the Dems
I would advertise in all computer-voting states to be wary of Democrats trying to steal votes. Use the fear that motivates so many Republicans to enlist them in making every vote count.

"Don't let the Dems steal the election!"

Beat them at their own game.

Republicans are not the only people capable of "Hacking in" to the voting machines.

23. I like your idea with a slight adjustment. Even in jest we shouldn't
further the "dems steal elections" bullshit, so you could print fliers and just put "Don't let THEM steal the election!" , that way you can leave it at every house and each side will "get" the message.

4. This is just too good!
The "liberal Democrats" have been saying for HOW MANY months that these electronic voting machines are fucked up? Forty-four, I believe, ever since they managed to give Al Gore negative 16,000 votes. I mean, I've heard of voting against a candidate, but that's ridiculous.

Now the Republicans are saying they're fucked up.

We have total agreement that electronic voting machines are fucked up. NOW WILL YOU FUCKERS GET BUSY AND FIX THIS SHIT?

6. You can trust this.
Florida Republicans do not do anything by accident. If they "accidently" get their party to grab up all the printed absentee ballots in South Florida, it will prevent at least some Democrats in Miami-Dade from voting.

Just like that little auto accident in Tallahassee kept traffic tied up most of the day as they investigated it as a crime scene in 2000.

38. I've read that the Repugs intend to disrupt traffic
big time up and down California with their recent "terror alerts" so people either won't or can't go to the polls. We're being told out here to vote early and not wait til the last minute or after work. It will work too; traffic can stop us from doing almost anything. ha

44. Isn't it federal law that allows employees 2 hours off to vote?
Well, we know why that important information isn't common knowledge, so people who have to wait til the last minute to vote after work might not be able to.

If we can spread this information, people will have enough time to avoid whatever is cooked up to stop them from voting, including traffic....

7. Conniving devious evil minds making sure only Repub votes count
since they plan all sorts of ways to disrupt voting on election day and want to be sure the Bush votes get recorded early. Very cynical and disturbing.

31. David Bowie
"Beauty and the Beast" I go back alot and listen to his stuff - all the way back to the late sixties - and man he has always been one hell of a poet. And so many of his lyrics seem to speak to today's issues - I guess "timeless" is the word.

22. Said that before
It seems like an elegant way around the BBV problem. FORCE them to count the vote. Unless they end up in the back of someone's car or in the Everglades.

11. This is a set up, because they know Bu$h is going to lose
so now they want to cast doubt on the legitimacy of a Kerry win.

Just wait for the repugs and their trial lawyers, to run to court over ever little problem, in any place where the dems get a majority of the votes. They are going to pull every trick in the book. Just you wait and see.

This is just the beginning.

19. Shameless...
>> Bush has even assailed critics of the machines as being partisans working to stir up voters against his older brother and Republicans. <<

A few months ago there was an ongoing show on Tech TV. I can't remember the name of the show offhand, but it featured two computer whizzes who would review computer equipment and discuss the latest in computer technology. Well, these guys not only said that electronic vote tampering was possible, they even demonstrated several ways it could be done!

And now I can't seem to find the show anymore. I wonder if that's the reason?

20. Everybody in Florida should apply for an absentee ballot
Regardless of party affiliation.

Otherwise, there will be more blacks for Bush in 2004 than there Jews for Buchanan in 2000.

39. (but only when proofing other people's stuff!)
(I am always missing my own typos. . . . . . .)

Actually, I thought the flyer might be a photoshop product of someone who was trying to make one up. I couldn't believe the pukes would actually send it out with that egregious typo. Then I checked the link in the original post and OMFG, there was the real thing, in the Miami Herald, with REPUBICANS plain as day.

Gave me one huge chuckle!

42. Welcome!
Welcome Mark Wayne! I'm a relative "newbie" too and have found this site to be incurably addictive. Since I don't watch TV (I do read newspapers), I get most of my news from DU. Perhaps I am permanently slanted left but I don't find the Latest Breaking News to be so. They just report the news with no editorializing (there is a forum for that, I believe). I am PDX Bara which roughly translates to "Portland (OR) Rose."
