BOSTON -- For 45 minutes Thursday night, John Kerry worked to convince Americans he is the right man to lead the country to peace and prosperity.
"We are here tonight united in one purpose -- to make America stronger at home and respected in the world," Kerry said in accepting the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.
Kerry's speech aimed to win over undecided voters and convince the nation that Republicans were wrong when they painted him as a flip-flopping politician and aloof liberal out of touch with America.
The prime-time speech on the final night of the Democratic National Convention was interrupted by constant applause and cheering as more than 4,300 delegates and other party faithful rallied round the 60-year-old Massachusetts senator.
Kerry came on stage to thunderous applause and the strains of Bruce Springsteen's "No Surrender." He answered the ovation: "I'm John Kerry, and I'm reporting for duty."<snip>
