http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000080&sid=a.F.JF1kMfNc&refer=asiaJuly 30 (Bloomberg) -- Pakistan's Prime Minister-designate Shaukat Aziz escaped a suicide attack near the country's capital in which at least five people were killed and 25 were injured, a police official said.
Aziz's motorcade was attacked by in Fateh Jang, about 40 miles (60 kilometers) from the capital, Islamabad, police spokesman Ismail Malik said by telephone. Aziz's visit was part of his election campaign for a seat in the nation's National Assembly, or parliament's lower house, he said.
Aziz, presently a senator, is running for the vacant Fateh Jang constituency in an election on Aug. 18. If he wins, he will qualify to be a candidate for the prime minister's post. Aziz has been finance minister since 1999.
