Reports in Kuwait on Friday said a man assumed to be Al Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab Zarqawi has been captured near the Syrian border.

Zarqawi, whose Tawhid and Jihad group has claimed responsibility for numerous attacks in Iraq, was captured during a joint operation by US forces and Iraqi police, Al Siyasah newspaper, quoting informed Iraqi sources, said Friday.

1. Someone can confirm ... this is an unreliable source
IIRC, they have very little credibility. Another DU'er might know.

5. Al Jazeera is reporting this too... I trust them more than FOX

Reports in Kuwait on Friday said a man assumed to be Al Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab Zarqawi has been captured near the Syrian border.

The report claimed that the man was captured during a joint operation by U.S. occupation forces and Iraqi police, Al Siyasah newspaper, quoting Iraqi sources, said Friday.

It also said that the suspect was caught in a white shirt and jeans, and he gave no resistance when he realized his hideout was besieged, according to Iraqi police.

The U.S. and Iraqi investigators are trying to identify the captive and has sent his DNA sample for testing, the unconfirmed report indicated.

Zarqawi is the most wanted suspect in Iraq and has a U.S. bounty of $25 million on his head.

12. Be Careful When Looking At Aljazeera Online
As far as I have been able to establish Aljazeera.com has no affiliation to the real Aljazeera (english) website which is english.aljazeera.net. Compare both sites and I think you will agree. The articles are not even that similar, let alone not the real Aljazeera english site. Note the lack of the real Aljazeera's trademark logo that they use for everything. This is something that I noticed awhile ago when Aljazeera.com made similar claims of a top terrorist's capture that turned out to be false.

13. Why do you say that?
I find the Kuwaiti papers generally unreliable (if that's who you're referring to), but al-Bawaba itself is quite useful.

You are correct about the aljazeera.com/aljazeera.net difference, and especially so about their very distinctive symbol. There's also an aljazeerah.info that is often mistaken for them.

17. "Why do I say that?"
If you were referring to the caution statement about being careful, I was only trying to point out the "fake" Aljazeera site(s). As far as news from middle east media outlets, I've found that most are just fine and are quite newsworthy. I realize that most are geographically biased as our media generally is, but some are also tabloids like I suspect the Aljazeera.com site is. Actually, I find that our "news" media is unfairly prejudiced toward Aljazeera.net and that, I find them and a couple of others to have more integrity and information than many of our own media outlets.

I wonder how many legs this one has.

On edit - I mean I wonder how many legs does the guy they captured have, not whether the story "has legs".

4. Not likely true.
If it was it would be a 24/7 event on FOX. It's most likely being leaked as a rumor for distraction purposes.

8. Yesterday-Reports of Zarqawi capture are false
BAGHDAD, July 29 (Reuters) - Reports that Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been captured in Iraq are false, a senior U.S. military officer and Iraq's Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

Unsourced reports had been circulating on some Web sites saying Zarqawi had been captured by Iraqi police and that DNA tests were being conducted to confirm his identity.

16. Wow, he got captured again?
This would be about the fifth time he's been captured.

He's pretty tricky for a guy who's been killed twice.

18. My semi-paranoid theory...
They know where Zarqawi is and they're ramping us up before they snag him. They can't find Osama, he may be long-dead, but... "Hey look! This one's just as good as Osama!" I've been watching them pump up alternative Osama's for a while and this guy appears to be their pick.

The Committee to Re-Select the President is in panic-mode. They may be planning on picking Zarqawi up earlier than October, requiring a publicity push on him immediately. Arresting him too soon is a poli-tactical mistake, imo, but waiting may not help much either. It doesn't matter. Right now, they can't see anything beyond the election slipping through their fingers with every passing moment.

Anyway, just because it's my paranoid theory doesn't mean they aren't actually doing it.
