WASHINGTON - The fourth warship named after the Lone Star State -- a $2.2 billion nuclear-powered submarine -- will be christened Saturday when first lady Laura Bush smashes a bottle of champagne over its sleek black hull.
Descending from a storied lineage of like-named vessels dating to the late 19th century, the latest USS Texas will wear its state credentials proudly, says its skipper, Capt. John Litherland.
The ship's logo shows a submarine smashing through a Lone Star and trailed by a Texas flag. The ship's motto: "Don't mess with Texas."

5. Yes, I have heard of christening babies, subs, and ships, but I don't |

think it is possible to Christian a sub or a ship and the Anabaptists say you can't Christian a baby either until they grow up and know what's what.
On edit: corrected spelling of christen. This is damn confusing. Maybe we could just "name" the sub?

9. will the bottle be "scored?" |
|
I mean scratched to facilitate its breaking?
Just wondering...all these photo ops seem so carefully thought out it would be a shame for the bottle not to break.
Then again as the wife of a self-declared tea-totaller maybe she shouldn't be playing with booze. A dash of whatever the Christian Right is baptizing with seems, perhaps, more appropriate.
