400 will lose jobs at Tyco (MA)

WESTMINSTER, Mass. -- Tyco International Ltd. will lay off 400 of its 766 employees at Tyco Safety Products in Westminster.

The announcement Friday marked the third round of layoffs this year at the Westminster plant. In May, the company laid off 60 employees at the same unit, just four months after laying off 75 there.

With the latest layoffs, the work force at Tyco Safety Products' Westminster unit will have fallen from 925 to 366 since Jan. 1.

Tyco, the world's biggest maker of alarms, electronic connectors and valves, operates a 680,000-square-foot facility shared by Tyco Safety Products and SimplexGrinnell, a Tyco subsidiary. The 450 employees at SimplexGrinnell in Westminster will be unaffected.
